Best young goalies in 09

Re: Best young goalies in 09

tuuka rask as my guy in 5-10 years down the line, if i can keep him that long.

for short term, i'd have to say ryan miller, or Cam Ward.

Cam Ward is a beast in this game, and was probably one of the top 5 goaltenders in the real life NHL this season.

Ryan Miller is easier to get than Cam Ward, in the game, however, so I usually just trade for Rask and Miller.

Also I try to get Filatov, because his ratings are geared so that even though he is an 83 ovr, he usually plays like a 93, haha. Jakub Voracek is also like that, but he's not as good as Filitov.

On defense, i always go for pietriangelo (SP?). He's only a 76 ovr at the first seasn, which is good, because it means he's easy to get and easy to resign for those first few years. Again, his ratings are geared so that he's basically a lesser version of Nick Lidstrom, with the physicality of Pronger. Great pickup to build your defense around.

Those three or four people can last your dynasty for many years to come...trust me on this.

Yeah Filatov and Voracek are ridiculous! They will both give you top line stats with <1mil contracts for 3 years. I would suggest steve mason, carey price, cam ward, josh harding, or johnathan bernier for goaltenders, the latter being a backup for a few years first. Jason Pominville and Kopitar are also good pick ups considering there ratings, ability to produce, low contracts, and long term contracts.

Cam Ward (Carolina Hurricanes) gets my vote as Best Youngest Goalie already in the NHL.

I'd back him up with Cory Schneider (Manitoba Moose - Vancouver Canucks AHL affiliate).

Notable mention to Tuukka Rask (Providence Bruins - Boston Affiliate)

Get Cory Scneider from the 'nucks.

I just don't get this guy. He's like a 77 (good potential though) and he plays like some un-human beast...

As a Caps fan I am interested to see where they land on Varlamov's ratings. I won't mind building my franchise around him (and immediately unloading Theodore's contract on an unsuspecting computer-controlled Southeast Division team).
