Angry This game is so infuriating!

First, I'll throw out the obligatory love for the game. I'm hooked like a whore on crack. But...

The amazing, magical comeback ability of the AI is so freaking absurd. It's not even comical anymore and I'm way, way past thinking "it DOES happen in reality". My past two games have set me off and I need to vent (sorry if this post is repetitive of others).

Game 1: ATL 7 (me), PIT 5; bottom of the 9th; 2 outs (K'd first two batters with CP). Next batter, double. Next batter, double. Next batter, double. How did I go from pitching lights out to getting spanked like a child? I eventually win in extra innings, BUT...through 12 games, out of 6 save opportunities, this is my 3rd Blown Save (probably on course to shatter the BS record).

Game 2: ATL 8 (me), WAS 0; bottom of the 5th; So I'm feeling pretty confident, got a 2-hit shutout rolling with Jurrjens, and smacking everything over the plate...but I just have that familiar feeling the AI is going to pull something amazing off. Well, three innings later, and, oh yeah, SIX home runs later, WAS is up 12 - 8. So again, I go from pitching lights out to getting beat on like I stole something.

The very one thing that sends me into a complete rage about the BS CPU "magic" are the Pinch Hit Home Runs that happen like clockwork. I can literally be in the midst of staving off a rally, have a PH come to bat, and turn to my girlfriend and tell her this is going to be a Home Run. In this department here I bat 1.000. I also don't enjoy the CPU's flawless plate discipline when they "need" to come back. Not enjoyable when you literally can not set up pitches.

Soooo...I know there is a big, huge thread about CPU Comeback being turned On or Off (which I've played with it off with Psycho's sliders). My question from the thread (the main point was to vent) is should I switch Comeback to On? Because, seriously if I see any more of this garbage, I'm going to box this turd up and send it on it's way (in pieces).

Re: This game is so infuriating!

You know what dude. I completely feel your pain. And while I know this thread will be locked once the sun comes up, I just had to add my $.02 as well. I just had a similar thing happen to me this evening. I was locked in a pitching duel with Webb and Zito. I was down 2-1 in the bottom of the 6th and ended up shelling Zito and their relief pitcher for 6 runs in the inning. I had just put Pena in who was lights out the inning before, and lo and behold, first pitch thrown out of the zone is smacked for a single. One pitch later another single... I had another pitcher warm with high confidence coming off his last game... hit, hit, hit. All of the sudden this Giants became unstoppable.

It's so god damn frustrating knowing that this is going to happen. I even know it's going to happen when the roles are reversed too. I've gotten shelled for 5 runs in the first inning a couple of times but I knew by the 6th I'd be either tied or leading.

So yeah, I feel your pain and I'm joining in on your rant. I love the **** out of this game and think the devs did a amazing job, but man come on...

Re: This game is so infuriating!

I started a new franchise a few weeks ago. I'm currently in the last week of spring training. I've seen some BS but have been able to weather for the most part. However, the last two games have sent me over the edge. Game 1 Yanks-Braves: Phil Hughes pitches 5.1 1 hit 1 run 5ks, we're up 4-1. I bring in Ian Kennedy, he promptly gives up three straight singles (two of the hits were balls at the shines, if not in the dirt) yet they still managed to be solid singles. Anyway, he ends up giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, we lose. Next game: Yanks-Pirates, CC throws 4 no hit innings were up 4-0.. CC struck out the side the previous inning. Fast forward to his next trip through the lineup. CC gets shelled for 6 runs on 5 hits, including a 2 run hr.

I'm not a believer in the whole comeback code debate. But sometimes you can just feel the CPU "cheating" not playing its way back into the game. I've seen some hits that would never occur for me or if the CPU was winning. I'm talking bloop singles, doubles that are perfectly placed, fly balls that seem just out of the reach of your outfielders, doubles down the line etc... When the CPU wants to it breaks out all sorts of hit variations.

Anyway I feel your pain. The best thing you can do is try and spot the comeback and be proactive... Don't throw strikes first pitch, don't listen to what your catcher tells you; I think the catcher helps the CPU in these situations, baiting you to place the ball where it can be hit, or asking you to throw a change up, only to have a passed ball and the runner advances. I've seen it all.

I like this game too much to let the CPU tendencies piss me off. But its starting to wear on me.
