Weird comebacker

This has happened to me about 6 or 7 times now, both when hitting or pitching. You hit a ground ball back up the middle and it hits the pitching rubber then shoots back to catcher usually for an easy out. It got me out of a little jam when the runner from third came to the plate. I tagged him and threw out the runner going to first ... Haha wanted to see if its happened to anyone else. Kinda funny but gets a little annoying when you think ya got a base hit. It would be sweet if the ball ever bounces off the bases but haven't seen that yet...

Same here. And yes, it isn't just a one-time deal. It's really frustrating to see a ball going right up the middle for a hit and then bouncing off the rubber.

I've seen it only twice in over 100 games. It's pretty funny when it happens cuz the announcers just act like it's an ordinary play. If that happened in real life the booth would go nuts.

The thing is it never happens in real life and it can't.

The rubber does not stick above the playing surface, it is "in" the mound. Now, it may change the direction of a grounder slightly if the ball hits it, but IRL it would NEVER hit the rubber and go back to the catcher.

Re: Weird comebacker

I've had it hit the pitcher and go back to the catcher, thought I might lose the pitcher to an injury but he was fine

Re: Weird comebacker

Funny, I've played over 100 games and I've never seen that...

It might be able to happen in real life though, as some pitchers dig a bit of a hole in front of the rubber. It would have to hit at just the perfect angle, but it could happen.

I think maybe you must have been seeing the ball bounce off of the pitcher, since, the G.O.A.T. would never allow any sort of anomly like this to occur.

Of course it could happen in real life. The rubber may be even with the dirt after the grounds crew gets the mound ready, but as soon as the pitcher takes the mound, he digs the dirt out. If not, you wouldn't be able to push off the rubber. I've never seen a ball bounce directly back to the catcher, but I've seen the ball hit the rubber and go straight up in the air. So yea, it's definitely something that could happen.
