Icon5 Larry Foote set to be cut by Steelers?

I read on Pro Football Talk today that the Steelers are planning to release Larry Foote so to get his replacement Lawrence Timmons on the field.

Pittsburgh Steelers set to release Larry Foote

Can any Steelers fan or follower confirm if this rumor is true?

I'm no Steelers fan but I've heard they've been looking at trading or releasing him for some time.

I don't know for sure, but I'd guess this could be done because of the Steelers' cap situation.

Foote has been vocal in saying he wants to come home to Detroit.

Make it happen, Lions. You miserable excuse for a franchise. Do something right.

Re: Larry Foote set to be cut by Steelers?

I haven't heard anything about this, but it's been expected that Timmons is going to either have a 50/50 split with Foote or take over the position.

Frankly, Timmons showed me more than Foote last year so I'm fine with Timmons as the starter. My only issue is it leaves a question as to the depth the Steelers would have at ILB.

Yeah, it's a done deal now. Larry Foote is officially being set for release by Pittsburgh. And better yet, he still wants to come to Detroit.

Larry Foote wants to join Lions

Heh, this all seems like borderline tampering though.

Re: Larry Foote set to be cut by Steelers?

He will be missed... especially his sack celebration...

He was set to make a lot of money and Lawrence Timmons appears ready to play on first and second down instead of just third. Basically a salary cap casualty.

I am a little concerned about the linebacker depth now... actually, I was concerned BEFORE they got rid of Foote... Timmons was the only quality backup, and he was second string at all 4 LB positions.

Interestingly, though, Foote is only the second starter--Bryant McFadden being the first--the Steelers have lost off the Superbowl Championship team from last season.
