I can't remember a year that's elicited more emotion than this year.
Every thread turns into a 4,000-view monster.
Every comment by Ian, Donald and Phillip is scrutinized more than an interrogation of an Al-Qaeda operative ... minus the waterboarding (though if 10 doesn't deliver, I wouldn't rule out the waterboarding

).

I've never seen anything like this for a sports game. This is a big turning point in football gaming, and I think a lot of people sense that. This is basically the year that EA either shows they're willing to put in the effort to make a great game or not... if they don't deliver, I don't see many people ever willing to come back to the table again.

Of course, a lot of the "passion" is people venting on the past 5 years.

EDIT: And yes, I accidentally voted for the wrong option.

It's because people are getting sick of hearing the hype...it's time to deliver. This is especially true because it's the only licensed NFL game available. That's the reason for the passion and the criticism because you have "EA Guys" and "2K Guys" banging heads trying to come up with a good game.

It doesn't seem any different to me than the last couple years. You have those that love Madden, those that hate it and those in the middle. There may be an increase in overall optimism from those in the middle, but the other groups are acting the same...just with new material.

The only thing I can think of is 2k5, and mostly because of the huge price cut they made. Really not game-related, per se.
