RTTS Free Agency - Pirates I hate you

I just completed my 4th season and final year of my contract in the Pirates organization and my 2nd season in the majors. We just lost 112 games and my team has finished last in each of the 4 seasons. Sorry but this organization flat out sucks. My rookie season I finished 3rd in rookie of the year consideration. The guy who won ROTY was my teammate at third base who put up ridiculous numbers. Sure enough, next season he was gone.

Anyways I was looking forward to this off season and had visions of my player in Yankee pin stripes or my favorite team the Astros. So I'm in the offseason and the only team that has offered me a contract is .... The Pirates! For 6 years. Are you kidding me? I had a great year despite missing 60 days on the DL. Am I missing something? Can I just go to any team's spring training and try out for the team as a walk on? I do not want to go through another year of utter futility let alone 6 years. Here's my resume. If you were another team's GM wouldn't you offer me a contract?

Did you already sign the 6 year deal? If so you are screwed.
If not then sign a one year deal for less money and hope for the best either now or in arbitration.

No I haven't signed anything yet. I was still hoping I could sign with another team but I guess that's not possible. I'll sign for 1 year but what is the player or team option and arbitration? I'm a novice in that area.

I'm in the big leagues now but I still feel like I'm on a farm team.

You need to serve 6 years of Major League time before you can become a free agent. Your only hope until then is to get traded. If this is your 6th season sign the one year contract and you should get some huge contract offers as a free agent in the next off season.

The Pirates trying to lock up young talent long term...completely unrealistic lol.
Doubt either the Yankees or Astros would sign you what with Berkman(If hes still there)& Texeira playing 1B.
This must be how the Pirates players felt when they traded Aramis Ramirez for ...well nothing.
Dont sign the 6 year contract at all.

Thank you. That explains things. I'll sign 1 year deals and keep pestering them for a trade I guess. 6 years of MLB service my guy will be 26 and should be a bonafide superstar by then.

By the way the Pirates got Bobby Hill for Ramirez. No not the kid from King of the Hill. Although, that kid wasn't right.

As a fan of the Pirates for the last 50 years, the only thing that has even come close to making me as angry as I was over the Ramirez 'deal' was passing over Matt Weiters in the draft for that worthless bum Moskos! Just because they knew that could sign Moskos on the cheap.
