just got a DS (a little late to the party)

I've never owned a handheld, or nintendo product before - and I go way back w/ gaming.

So i searched, but couldn't find anything on this forum about what the cream of the crop DS games are.

I have brain age and mario cart. I like the DS because of the different types of games, so I think i'll look for one of those mystery games next.

anywho, if you want to chim in or put up a top 5 list I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Here are a few I really like:

Elite Beat Agents (sometimes you can find it at Costco for $10).
CrossworDS
Brain Age 1 & 2
Mario Kart
Clubhouse Games (outstanding deal--has 42 games built-in)
Animal Crossing
Picross
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
New York Times Crosswords
New Super Mario Brothers
Cooking Mama 1 or 2

I know that's more than 5. I'm pretty picky about games, but these are some of the best you can get for DS. All are fun.

Thanks, that sounds great. And to Bkfount, that was the one someone was talking about when I said mystery, so thanks. I heard about some recipe cooking ones (for real life) I might check out too. Because I waited soooo long to get one, I think there might be about a thousand games for it.

This is going to be great for the subway and before bed too if I'm not dying to play 360-type games.

Re: just got a DS (a little late to the party)

Congrats on picking up a DS; it's a great system.

Here's some of my favorites:
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (a real-time strategy game that's highly addicting)
Trauma Center (perform surgeries with the stylus; a tough game but enjoyable)
Trace Memory (text-based adventure)
Hotel Dusk (same as Trace Memory)
Phoenix Wright series (similar to TM, HD)
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (stylus-based controls work really well)
Sonic Rush (fun platformer)
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (currently playing, very fun and if you like GTA, you should check this out)
Big Brain Academy
New Super Mario Bros. (classic Mario gameplay)
Super Princess Peach (another good platformer)
CrossworDS
