MLB 2K9 RATE MY TRADE THREAD

Playing as mainly Baltimore right now, this team is a lot of fun.

I'm 19-26 w/ the O's w/ 5 gms left in May.

After bringing Radhames Liz up, that's solidfied my 1-4 starters of:

RH Guthrie
RH Uehara
LH Hill
RH Liz

I brought Adam Eaton up to be my #5 at the beginning of May since Mark Hendrickson ended April w/ an ERA in the 7's. Eaton's first start as an O, was in KC, striking out 8 and winning 12-4. But that was vs the Royals...his last two starts vs div rivals of TB and NYY saw him getting crushed for at least 6 runs in each.

I didn't really feel like there was anything available in the minors in terms of a major league ready arm.

With that said, I made a trade, tell me what you think.

The Pirates have had Tom Gorzelanny on the block for about a month, and a LH SP is something I could use - since Rich Hill is my only one.

Gorzelanny is rated a 78, which is probably a little high for him now considering his recent struggles, but nevertheless he's a FA at the end of the yr and we can just assume Pitt doesn't resign him.

The Deal:

Pittsburgh sends LHSP Tom Gorzelanny

in exchange for Prospects Troy Patton, Jake Arrietta, and minor leaguer OF C. Yee.

All are signed through at least the next 2 years.

Thoughts?

Re: MLB 2K9 RATE MY TRADE THREAD

I personally think you gave up way way too much. I think you couldve gotten something a lot better. Arrieta is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and Patton was for the last few years and was Houstons top prospect before his labrum surgery last year. If hes pitching well for you then all of that becomes irrelevant obviously but on paper I think you gave up too much.

Yikes, you parted with too much there.

Thanks for the replies....

Yea, I figured I'd be giving Pittsburgh a deal. Gorzelanny's 4-1 on the season w/ an ERA in the low 3's, his K total is nice too; so we'll say that Pitt was driving up the price given his 2009 success through most the season thus far.

Arrietta's got a good fastball, and a good stamina rating but his secondary pitches aren't quite there yet. Patton was one of those guys who came over in the Tejeda deal, and still has some upside but his stamina is low @ 74 and his secondary pitches aren't there yet either.

Honestly, the only prospect I'm coveting right now is Brain Matusz; he's the only top 100 prosp. for BAL (in game). Hopefully everything goes well w/ Gorzelanny. He's a young lefty, and his pitches are rated nicely: 84 FB, high 70's Slider, and Curve, and a change. Besides, I like to compensate for the rather lax trade AI too.

Either one of you all running a 'chise?

Re: MLB 2K9 RATE MY TRADE THREAD

I like the trade if that you get some one who is young but has some experience from last season in your rotation. However the addition doesnt male you a contender for the east and you gave up a lot of prospects for some1 who had a good start to the season.

In my season i lost 4 OF at one point so i ended up doing:

Yankees Receive:

Andruw Jones

Texas Receive:

Kei Igawa
Angel Berroa

He was third on there CF depth so he had like 15 at bats and 4 RBIs.
After about 60 games for me however he is only batting in the .260s with 1HR and 11RBIs. So i guess you could say he has failed at replacing Swisher.

Not a bad trade for you. I guess it filled a need due to injuries. Jones' bad still has some pop in it... .260 a homer, and 11 RBI is decent production in the interim - given your injuries.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Another driving factor into acquiring Gorzelanny is that in the one game I pitched w/ Rich Hill - my only lefty starter. I struggled and was charged w/ 7 runs after 4 innings, and that was vs. the Nationals. I haven't given up on Hill, but aside from a fastball rated in the mid/high 70's his secondary pitches are high 60's or slightly lower.

At least w/ Gorzelanny I get a 26 yr old w/ great pitching ratings. Whether or not I can pitch effectively w/ him is another story. It sounds like I'm trying to justify this trade.... Really though I just want to get everything out there that factored into making this deal.

I think that Gorzelanny trade was fair for both sides. Very realistic trade imo.

Re: MLB 2K9 RATE MY TRADE THREAD

I am thinking of trading for Nate Robertson to get a lefty who can spot start and go long from the bullpen. I am thinking of trading Redding or Reed from the Mets to get him. Any suggestions?
