Does anybody feel like the confidence meter is a little overdone??

It seems like sometimes the confidence meter and how it's implemented makes the game feel scripted. I am all for the confidence I think they really did a great job with it but I just feel like if I lose confidence then I end up giving up a ridiculous amount of hits in a row. I understand that when you lose confidence it's hard to hit your spots but I think even on Legend they need to make the CPU mess up a little more on fat pitches and not get hits every single time.

I guess I can just turn off pitch confidence and hope that changes some of it because I'm not really sure if it's total confidence or individual pitch that's causing this but I gave up 21 hits in one game against the Rays with Lester starting that game. I lost 11-3 which I have no problem with but I just felt like the game didn't even feel realistic when they got like 7 hits in a row. I won the series 2 games to 3 and in the series I batted .288 (which is very realistic) but the Rays batted .400. That's a little crazy. I am going to have to play more games obviously to see if these things start to average out but if not I will have to make changes with sliders/options.

I really hope they come out with a slider for overall confidence sensitivity. I would make it much harder to lose/gain confidence. Everything would be more gradual as far as losing/gaining confidence but it wouldn't take that much to lose/gain confidence back to the middle of the meter. I am talking about overall pitcher confidence not individual pitch confidence.

I think the confidence meter is a great concept, but having said that. I also think that its a bit over done here. I can see maybe a 5th starter or a rookie getting rattled and losing it quickly. But a decent vet may have a bad game like that, may mess up, rush pitches, etc. But it wouldn't happen everytime he was in that type of situation. Otherwise he wouldn't last in the majors for long. IMO.

I dont think you can turn it off as its just a meter?lol
But I agree with you 100 % and adjusted my sliders for this on Allstar to lessing it.
I said it many times on other threads , it too drastic and happens too fast , should be a bit more gradually not BAM and theres not much you can do when its locked in accept adjust sliders.
Still loving this and I hope a patch would tone this down.
Good Luck

Yes you can turn the confidence meter off for individual pitches but not the meter (blue one when you hit select) that is for the actual pitcher's confidence.

What do you mean you can adjust this with sliders??

I just pitched a great realistic game with Smoltz. I think sometimes it plays out realistic but if you aren't pitching good and you lose it then wow you really don't get a second chance. I guess that's why you have to time your mound visit just right knowing that you only have one per inning and if you use it at the wrong time it can really screw up your pitcher's game.

I think what they should do for the future is add another realm to it. How about have pitching coaches in the game that actually have ratings for how good they are. You can see cut scenes of the pitching coach talking to the pitcher in the dugout in between innings and it can help the pitcher just like actual mound visits can. I mean they do have the real pitching coaches in the game (I know they have the Rays one for sure, not sure about all of them though).

As far as I know they have all the real coaches in this game.

Well if they do then it would be cool to see a rating for each pitching coach. They all have the ability to help the pitcher's but some are just better and can help pitcher's out maybe a little more. Either way I think SCEA can figure out that part of it (they are geniuses when it comes to baseball).

So basically just have little cutscenes of the pitching coach talking to the pitcher only when the pitcher is REALLY struggling. This is all random and not something that you can control otherwise you would just do it every half inning lol. Only when your pitcher's confidence gets to a certain point so it can help prolong his start maybe. I just find it crazy sometimes to lose confidence so quickly and have to pull your pitcher just because you already used a mound visit. This is something that happens in baseball in the dugout that does help a pitcher at least eat up another inning. It never turns his outting around 180 degrees where he ends up not giving up a hit after giving up 9 in the first 3 but you get what I mean.

I am sure this team of devs are working on ideas for 2010 as soon as this baby dropped.

Dave ,
I ment I adjusted my sliders , cpu hit ones mostly to counter the unfair boost and losing my pitcher confidence way to quick , im playing on Allstar and im almost at perfect balance at least with my skills
