Is 2k9 underrated because of the show?

This isn't really an impression and I'm not saying this game doesn't have problems that need to be fixed because it does, but this is one of the better 2k games I have played in a while. I'm not just blowing smoke either. I really think that. This game is pretty fun once you get a hang of things. I'm just wondering if there is anyone else out there enjoying this game and seeing the things i am. There are certain things i dont like about this game. I wish they'd tighten up the pitcher and batter duels in particular, the fielding could also use some work. The player faces and graphics are a mixed bag. The AI glitches take away from it at times. but i think it's a pretty solid game and if they patch it should be solid.

I still have hope for this game. It has something going for it. What that is is hard to explain. But it's fun. The mechanics of pitching and batting and physics are very good. The controls are also fun. The animations can be very good at times. The realtime stuff, camera angles and commentary can also be excellent and there are lots of little things that make the game enjoyable. It might have problems but it's still baseball.

I'm using bigfnjoes sliders and the game isnt perfect but i get fairly realistic games and competitive games for hte most part. I might see a glitch here and there but its a pretty fun game. This game has gotten slammed, w hich i find weird because ive played 2k7, 2k8 and past versions adn 2k9 is the best one by a good margain imo. This isn't a show vs 2k9 debate because the show is better. Anyone in their right mind would agree that overall the show is a better game. But 2k9 by itself is still a pretty good game imo.

Re: Is 2k9 underrated because of the show?

I think it's underrated because they released one of the most buggy sports games I've played in a while. There is definitely a solid baseball game here, but it's asking a lot of customers/reviewers to ignore the glarring bugs. If they had released a much worse playing game without bugs, it would be getting a lot more positive attention than it is. People paying $60 for a game have every right to expect that the game has been put through(and passed) fairly rigorous testing, 2K failed in that respect.

There is a fun baseball game here, I agree with that, hopefully another patch comes to fix some of the bugs, but you only get one chance to make a first impression and 2K ruined that chance when they released a game where an outfielder can't pick up a stopped ball(among other things).

It is underrated because The Show is such a great baseball sim, but it's also totally deserving of a low rating due to the amount of bugs the game ships with.

I agree, there is a very fun and engaging baseball game here - we just have to be patient that VC will fix the biggest issues so we can fix the other kind.

I think there's something to this.

I burned out on The Show a couple of years ago, but I can't deny it's a terriffic game. MLB 2K is competing with one of the most complete (if not the most) sports sims on the market. Add in the exclusive license, and any and all of its shortcomings are magnified.

I must say, though, that this game doesn't quite deliver the depth or "feeling" of depth that The Show does.

Recalling my 2B from 08 The Show, I really felt more "into" the game than 2K9. Granted, they're different modes, but even in Franchise mode, I don't really feel "in" it as much as The Show.

Still doesn't mean I'm not having fun with 2K9 though! It's PC - its' the only game in town aside from MVP 05.

Re: Is 2k9 underrated because of the show?

I agree that 2k out of the box tried to make this a pitch and hit arcade game which was a mistake imo. It does lack depth in certain regards but its still pretty fun. Plus it is sloppy in certain regards. I hope they can iron some of these things out this year because i agree that there is a fun game to be had here somewhere. It's frustrating in certain regards because this game has a lot going for it, but is so far away in others. I personally think 2k could outdo the show if they get their heads on straight.

Re: Is 2k9 underrated because of the show?

I don't think it's underrated. It's rated (minus the one drunken Gamespot review...lol) pretty much exactly where it should be for all the issues it has.

I would agree with the point that The Show's success only further magnifies the issues with 2K's game though. My biggest issues is the developer's primary focus (and this comes from their own mouths) wasn't to make a realstic baseball sim, but was to create a game that was accessable for any user.

No offense meant to the more casual players, but this is the wrong approach. You already have games for that. You can make a game challenging and realistic without alienating the casual fan, but it's nearly impossible to reverse the focus without alienating the more "hardcore" one.

Hopefully, VC does what Kush doesn't and responds to the critique by building on what works in what they've done so far and not just randomly shift focus each year...lol.

This series is in desparate need of stability IMO.
