MLB 2K9: A Great First Step For Years To Come (whoever, wondering to get game or not)

So I got the game yesterday, I have been playing it ever since. I'm in my 5th game with the Red Sox, still trying to figure out which level of difficulty and certain sliders I'm going to use.

But this game is helluva solid baseball game. I mean, it has its ups and downs (like any other) but here are some of the really good positives and negatives if you are still trying to decide whether to buy the game or not.

Negatives:
-Now idk if it was because I made it so I could edit CPU rosters. but I was signing people to different teams from FA (i'm not connected to internet yet, so no living rosters) and I'm used to my team (red sox) being the first team selected for everything since that's my team. I wanted to sign Varitek from FA, I made the contract and he accepted. I find out he was signed to the Angels, since that was the team that was selected (didn't know I had to scroll through the teams to get to mine to sign a FA. But i'm just assuming it's because I made myself able to edit CPU rosters.

-Sunglasses sunglasses sunglasses. Every player has them, even if they don't in real life. andd, they don't even look like sunglasses they look like reading glasses. So at least you can edit your player and remove that from him.

-Editing players. A lot of cool things you can edit, for example, your bat how thick or skinny, you can add pine tar to it and how much. The downfall is, no editing player stances or pitching windups which is a bummer. I used to find it so fun to see all the different stances and windups. but those are not available in the game.

-Some players faces don't really look like the player, but some do a really good job.

-No active scoreboards, I was bummed. The green monster scoreboard in Fenway is blank

-The batting gloves look like silky Michael Jackson gloves, and a nice touch in the field though, with the gloves in their back pocket, but when they come up to bat, they are wearing batting gloves, but there somehow is still another pair in their back pocket.

-Managers..their jackets look like the give them about another 200 pounds of weight. and it doesn't look very real since the team name isn't on the front of it.

-Fans could get louder in situations, either a rally, or when pitcher is in a jam with 2 outs about to strike someone out, I think they try to get louder during a pitching jam, it's just not loud enough.

-basrunning can be hard, takes a little bit to get used to (practice mode)

-and batting USE CLASSIC HITTING, the hit stick is a pain in the *** i was gonna throw my controller out the window, because it wouldn't swing for me once i did all instructions. Classical hitting, just hit A.

Positives:

-Commentary is amazing, so many different things said with Thorne and Phillips, you're not given the same commentary over and over again.

-I love pitching in this game. it's extremely fun. It's a new different way, but just hit up practice mode once you first pop the game in.

-Crowd, I love the fans fighting for foul balls and homerun balls. Their noise is good, they at LEAST cheer when you hit a homerun or strike someone out (instead of the past where you could hear a rat piss on cotton, after you hit the GW homerun)

-The bullpen is really cool, during the game when you want to warm up a pitcher, you can check up on the status of you guy warming up and it shows him throwing in the pen with a meter showing you how ready he is.

-Signature styles are mostly right on point.

-The CPU is agressive, so if you like a challenge, like myself, you would enjoy playing the CPU

-and i don't know exactly what sliders I adjusted, but the CPU does not swing at everything, there are a good amount of looking strikes and swing and misses.

-The sky is brilliant. You play at 7:00 game, in the early innings to the late innings you see the light progressively get darker. VERY nice touch.

-Real Time Atmosphere. Solid. Many cut scenes of players in dugouts on field etc. really helps bring game to life.

It's a really good game to play. I can say that I'm satisfied with it and I will be playing it for a while. But once that 2K10 wishlist is started, only the future looks bright with this game. It's definitely a good job from starting at scratch and rebuilding a new game.

GOOD JOB 2K.

Call me crazy, but this game has been around for a long time, and has exclusive 3rd party rights now for what, 3 years? Why should people be willing to settle for a "first step" from this series?

I just don't get why EA and Madden got DESTROYED by people for it's purchase of the NFL license, and yet, the quality of the game hasn't dropped off. However, 2K's baseball games have seem to have gotten significantly worse since their acquisition of the MLB license. And yet, 2K doesn't get nearly the amount of bile spewed at them that EA has gotten for it's NFL deal.

Re: MLB 2K9: A Great First Step For Years To Come (whoever, wondering to get game or

When has 2k EVER put out a decent baseball.....answer never(2K8 was very playable with major slider tweaks). This "great step" angle is complete BS.

The development team that put out this pile of garbage should all be canned, or at least whoever made the decision to release the game with all of the nonsense in it should be.

The decision making process about what is important and what should be in the game and how the game should play out on the field is appalling.

I'm so damn disgusted with all the BS every year from these game company's "selling" us on new features only to take out features/options that are vital to what happens on the field. Great 2k! The real time lighting, no meatballs, and stellar commentary are great, but they don't mean an effing thing if the CPU hacks at everything (every CPU hitter swings at 3-0 pitches), the fielding is erratic, the player editor sux, and finally, you still haven't figured out the IE nonsense that you idiots have been selling your customers on for what, 3 years. IE is STILL broken. WTF are you people doing?!?!?!?

To the original poster, I can certainly respect your opinion and if the game is playing out well for you great. Unfortunately, your statement that CPU takes plenty of strikes just blew a gaping hole in your credibility. They don't. It's a fact not an opinion. Why is that every year, about 99% of the forum discovers a problem, there's always ONE guy that gets the golden ticket/edition of the game that doesn't have the problem. I guess it was you. Congrats.

You can't be serious with that statement? The quality of the game hasn't dropped off.
