How important is HDMI?

I just got a brand new PS3 lastnight and am waiting to get The Show today. But my question is will this game look sharp out of the box with no HDMI? I have a 46 inch 720p Samsung....

If your TV has COMPONENT Inputs you will be just fine. Now if your TV has HDMI Inputs & you need cables I suggest:

www.monoprice.com

I just picked-up 3 6ft Gold-Plated 1.3 Cert HDMI Cables for $16.00 including shipping for a friend. I have ordered HDMI Cables from them many times & the Cables are great.

If your TV only supports up to 720p then you should be fine with just the component cables. If you had a 1080p TV, i would say get an HDMI cable but you should be good to go with the component cables. I have an Hitachi Plasma that supports 720p and 1080i and have my PS3 hooked up via HDMI to DVI but play my games in 720p which is great IMO.

Re: How important is HDMI?

With a 720p TV, you'll get the same performance out of component cables but I like the ease of an HDMI because the sound travels over that cable as well.

Don't let the Best Buys out there rip you off for a HDMI cable. You can get perfectly good ones for around $5 plus shipping at monoprice.com

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

EDIT: Yeah what they said LOL

I second that. Monoprice is the way to go. If you go to best buy they will tell you that there is a difference in the types of HDMI cables and want you to buy the more expensive but don't do it. If you don't want to buy online, you can alway hit Walmart if you have one by you. They have good HDMI cables for great prices.

Re: How important is HDMI?

Sony's kinda cheap by only sending composites with their PS3s, but luckily if you had a set of component cables for the PS2, they will work on the PS3 too.

If it is your first time buying HD cables for a Sony system, just get the HDMI.
