Something that EA really did right in this game...

We've heard what has been done wrong..

How about a thread where we talk about what is right with the game?

One thing I was thinking about today that I really enjoy is the different style of quarterbacks. Without it really being a "feature," I find that each quarterback has a style that along with his actual ratings may help/hurt.

For instance, I've had tall quarterbacks that sling the ball which really kind of downplays their height. Now I have a 6'7 QB that throws EVERY pass over the top. It's really rare to see a bat down, and that's a great feeling knowing that I just have to find the open guy and lay it in there.

I have also noticed that they have different voices, celebrations, etc. Really like that.

I really like the way both spirals and wobbly passes look in this game, they really have the ball flight down to a T. Maybe need a little more arc to the typical throws, still. But overall these are aspects I look at and really enjoy.

That's funny, because when I play NCAA 09 on XBOX 360 every QB thinks he's Tim Tebow and runs that zone read atleast 10x a game... Even if he has a 60 speed rating...

Yeah, I meant... of the QBs I've used. The cpu definitely needs to learn how to play to the strength of their QBs.

You must be playing PS2 because on next-gen....

Ball flight and loft is terrible and CPU controlled QB's never play to their tendencies. For user QB's, I've only really felt like there were three types... Scrambling QB, Hard-throwing Pocket QB, and everyone else. There aren't any penalties for using 80 THA QB's, so they all play pretty much the same.

There are quite a few things done right in this game though.

Hate to be a downer but the ball looks horrible. I've never seen so many knuckle-balls in my life. They need to add the rotation back. Definitely needs more arc to keep the super hero LB's from snatching the ball out of mid-air.

I haven't noticed any different throwing motions on PS3. The QB will drop down a little and throw it sidearm every now and then, mainly to the flats.

Right now the only positive note I can speak on is Online Dynasty. The fact they added it is huge.

Re: Something that EA really did right in this game...

I actually think that EA should really improve on the variety of QB play. I want to see some guys over the top and others 3/4. I think they slowed down some QBs too much and I didn't see enough quarterbacks run as effectively as they should against me. Also, they really need to add ratings for quickness of release as well as accuracy ratings on short vs. deep. Truly having quarterbacks that are deep bombers, short west coast guys, long windups, quick releases, different throwing motions and tendencies will really get this game to shine.

But trying to stay on topic, it is much easier to point out things you don't like vs. things you do. I liked HFA this year and I did generally like the balance in the running game. I felt it was fairly well balanced in running inside vs. outside. One gamekiller for me in football games is if the inside running game sucks and this game does it pretty well.

I know people don't like the lack of true head tracking but I actually thought it was pretty decent in '09 and even '08 post patch.

The frame rate on the PS3 was much better.

The short passing game was much better this past year and curl routes weren't the pick 6 festival that '08 was.

Saving replays and roster sharing was great.

I thought the atmosphere and presentation was largely good even though it can be improved.

The only difference I see in quarterbacks is who is fast and who is slow. Other than that they are all interchangable.
