Will Pitchers Make Too Much Contact in The Show '09?

I'll tell you...

IF the SAME THING is done for '09, that was done in '08, the PROBLEM is that pitchers who don't hit at all have some or all of the hitting attributes filled in.

My general rules of thumb:

a) if a pitcher has NEVER, EVER hit, or has perhaps a single or two ONLY (no extra base hits), the contact and power attributes are ZERO

b) NO pitchers will have the drag bunting attribute populated...none. And this goes for overwhelmingly MOST position players too.

b) ONLY pitchers who have laid down at least one sac bunt will have the bunting attribute populated

c) pitchers who have not drawn even one walk, will have their plate discipline attribute at ZERO

d) pitchers who have never batted at all, will have their plate vision at ZERO.

e) 99.9% of relievers (for obvious reasons) should have ALL OF THE ABOVE zeroed out

Hey Rod can you post up more of your rules of thumb? Your stamina scale from last year worked wonders.

Re: @ RAZRr1275

I have to disagree with most of this. Don't forget that most pitchers were good hitters in college or whatever the last amateur level they played was. That shouldn't entitle them to good ratings of any sort, but I think that starting with '0' is too harsh.

As far as I can recall, AL pitchers are hitting around .180 in interleague play. That seems a bit higher than 0 ratings would grant.

This has been my only complaint about the demo, the pitchers still seem to hit too often

Brett Myers better be one hell of a hitter. That goes for Joe Blanton as well.

@ Azamien

We're not talking about what guys did in college, high school or whatever the hell they did in the sandlots either

LMAO

Pay attention...attributes are based on the prior season (or as we're told, for '09, the last three)...
The stat about pitchers hitting .180 in meaningless. Why? Because most AL pitchers DON'T/DID NOT hit in interleague. Look it up

The ONLY exception I make is if I'm creating a CAP for a minor leaguer who HIT in the minors the year his CAP is based on...and those guys will be represented, but for most of the rest, it AIN'T happening

@ houtz

I think you need to RETHINK what you wrote LMAO

Blanton in 2008, 1 for 17 = .058

Lifetime, 2 for 26 = .074

Myers: his 'best' hitting years were 2002-2005, nothing spectacular, but he was ok for a pitcher

in 2008: 4 for 58 (1 double) = .069
