The 4-2-5: The magic defense

For a long time I've been playing NCAA out of a base 3-4 (it's what I played out of in Madden and APF 2k8), but my school (Rice) runs a 4-2-5 and I figured I would go ahead and try it out for one of the games in my Dynasty.

Wow...

The 4-2-5 (along with the 4-4 included in the playbook) must be magic or something, using the 3-4, I was bumping up my defensiv sliders to compensate for the broken coverage mechanics (I was up to 60 Awareness and my guys were still blind), but I tried out the 4-2-5 and even with Awareness/Knockdowns/Break Blocks lowered considerably, my DBs actually make plays on the ball, my LBs/SSs track and stop the run, and my D-line actually gets pressure on the QB!

I would suggest to everyone to at least try out the 4-2-5 defense for a few games, it's amazing.

Yep, the 4-2-5 and 3-3-5 are both very good at stopping the CPU passing game.

I never had more than marginal intermittent success with the 3-3-5. It was slightly better than the 3-4 or the 3-2-6, but nowhere near as good as I've found the 4-2-5 to be.

Its the only set I can get sacks with. The only thing I hate is when I have 3 or 4 great linebackers and can't get them on the field enough. Best D to run hands down.

The 4-2-5 is a sick defense. It can be shaky at times though. I've given up my fair share of solid passing games against the CPU. I don't have the right players for each position, seein as how I'm only running it in my dynasty and am only in year 2, but I can tell that once I get the right personnel, it's gonna be awesome.

Re: The 4-2-5: The magic defense

What players/positions are on the field on the 4-2-5 defense?

Can someone explain?

I am guessing

2 DE
2 DT
2 LB
2 CB
2 FS
1 SS

Correct?
