Make the one-timer more effective?

Can't believe Im actually saying this, but I think EA should revamp the effectiveness of their one-timers, Any player can bang in a cross crease pass, but no one in the game can successfully convert on a one-timer.

For Example : http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=VE74DB...eature=related

Watch Hemsky walk just inside the left faceoff dot, and fire a pass across to Horcoff(The Oilers bread and butter play on the PP) Horcoff one-times it past Khabibulin.

In NHL 09, there is no chance you make that pass through the CPU, all the passes are the exact same speed, and the slap-pass is useless this year. Even if you did get it through, the pass was so slow or the goaltender is just inhuman(like they can be in OTP or vs) and slides across to make the save.

Another Example: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=aiIlhaQ2Jt4&NR=1

Kovalchuk's one timer using a 1-1-3 setup(aka the umbrella). The shot squeeks the montreal goaltender, but the fact that the one-timer was A)on target and not 10 feet wide, and B) not whiffed on by one of the best shooters in the game like it happens so often in 09.

The other option would be to have player hot-zones like in EA's NBA series, obviously don't show the hot-zones on the ice, but clicking the Right thumbstick in on a player(to view stats and such) would also show you where he is best suited for one-timers and shots. Horcoffs would be to the just below the left(or right whichever way your looking) dot. Kovalchuks would basically be the entire offensive zone, as would Ovechkins etc...

I definitely agree with you 619, as the Penguins PP utilizes the one timer all the time from the side boards and the point, but every time I attempt that strategy in the game guys who are as skilled as Malkin and Crosby swing and miss at the passes every time.

Re: Make the one-timer more effective?

I've had one-timers go in when I'm set up on the face-off dot. Much like how Kovalev scores his one-timers/PP goals. So I can't agree with you that these goals don't go in in NHL09. I agree it's harder to perform than in NHL08.

And the best shooters in the game 'whiffing' on shots is not the game, it's your timing... sorry to say.

I agree.

I have no problem performing those plays.

Holding the Left Trigger (Vision Control) when shooting in a loose puck in front of the net at least keeps you from throwing a hit and taking a penalty. It does not always fire a shot, but the fact that you do not throw the hits lets you keep jamming away and it helps quite a bit.
