What is a cheese goal!

I've not played an NHL Game in about 10 years. I got NhL 09 a couple weeks ago. Last night I lost a game online 5-1 and when I scored my goal the high pitched voice informed me that I cheesed him. I'm not sure what that is. I one timed from behind the net. Is this not a valid play? Keep in mind that it was the first goal that I scored online in about 10 games I guess I'm getting too old for this stuff.

I know a lot of people believe that all one timers are "cheese" plays. I disagree, especially if you lost 5-1! The biggest cheesers in online games, are the players who use the same play over and over and over again. They ruin all the fun of the game as they exploit flaws and beat you by 6 or so goals.

I can hardly pull a one timer off...It's surprising to me that it would would be considered cheating. Most of the time the puck goes right by the shooter....at least in my case. Anyway...it just struck me as odd that one timers are considered a valid way to score. I've certainly seen much stranger goals.

I agree but one timers in past versions of EA's NHL franchise where very easy and very easy to score with, so I think people still think it's a little cheesy.

Re: What is a cheese goal!

To me...a cheese goal is one that a player knows will always work.....and uses it either to no end or in a tight game if he needs a goal to tie it up or win it.

I cannot remember the game...but there was a goal...you would simply carry the puck from your zone into the opponents.....straight down the boards on either side.....then when down at about the goal line...just zip straight across and when you got to the other side of the goal...the goalie could not keep up with you and you simply just slide it in.

There was pretty much no defense against it.....even when you saw the guy doing it.
CHEESE.

Re: What is a cheese goal!

One timer from behind the net is not cheese.

I only categorize 2 goals as cheese goals right now.

1. skate behind the net to the other side of the goal and go high nearpost slapshot.

2. a 5-hole slapper or wrister from the goaline. (this one is extra cheesy because it looks ridiculous)

Isn't the idea to win the game. If hockey had real cheese goals in real life they would e using it every game.
