Has anyone figured out...

Has anyone figured out how to stop the DL from being cut down by OL on pass rush? Or even getting a pass rush with 4 guys without blizting?

I'm looking around on the thread for all the guys who got this game when it first came out. It seems we all dissappeared. Well, if you are still out there let me know if you find a solution. You guys should be in your 6th season by now.

I'm trying to like this game again giving it a shot again, but this DL/OL interaction is annoying. I read a thread about someone being fired because he had a cap penalty of $54M...lol. It made me want to try my hand at the Lions.

yeah the cut blocks are a bit ridiculous, I dont think you can prevent that. I seem to have the most success rushing the QB with LB blitzes out of the 3-4.

I've had the same frustration. There's not much you can do about the OL cutting your defenders, but if you do happen to draft a premier pass rushing DE, you can see the difference immediately. There are three DE that I have drafted in different careers that have just been monsters in the pass rush. There aren't many of them, but when you find one it really boosts the rush your line generates. You have to have a dominant pass rushing end to get a decent push with a four man rush in my experience. It's not always in the overall rating either, speed counts a lot in rushing the QB it seems. If you have a guy with a quick enough burst, he can get by the OL before they can engage him and the cut thing happens. they will still get caught at times, but you can get a realistic amount of pass rush. Players names in spoiler if you want them.

Speed kills on the D-line. Good coaches help as well. I also seem to get the best results from moving my best rusher to the LE position. I generally concentrate a lot of coaching points towards my DL so that might be helping me as well. Also practice pressuring the QB every chance I get.

Anyway, that's what works for me. Hope it helps you.

If you dont run a 3-4 you can draft a 3-4 edge rusher and convert them to DE, this has been great for me. Just make sure they have some bulk on them, I drafted a Joey Porter clone who even does his kick celebration. He has averaged 9 sacks a year for me and gets decent penetration when I actually play the game.

I usually go for guys with a high Strength rating, it doesn't cure the pancake issue with the game but it helps.

Re: Has anyone figured out...

I turned the CPU pass block down to 0 and the breack block up to 100. also ever since my coaches performance rating has went up my pass rush is much better

Re: Has anyone figured out...

I use a base 4-3 with the strong safety in the box and don't blitz much.

What I do use is an offset line a lot where I often line up one of the DE on the outside shoulder of a tackle with a defensive tackle right next to him. I usually slide the other defensive tackle to a nose guard position and in various sets move the other end all over the place.

When I do blitz I try and do it out of a stack type formation and that seems to give the best results.
