Styles of Dunking for players (Sets)

Besides playing the actual game, a hobby of mine is trying to make the players as unique as possible, to play like they actually would in a game. I don't know a lot about their shooting styles or dribbling styles, but I do know a lot about their dunking styles. Here's a list of every player that is known as a "dunker" and their style.

Before the list, you probably know that there are 4 categories of dunking in the rating system. For "Generic," 50-59 rating will mean no dunking, 60-74 will mean basic, 75-84 will mean stylized basic (more powerful dunks, higher dunks), and 85-99 will mean almost every dunk in the game (for generic), but basically a mix of basic and flashy dunks. If you use a set list like "Melo" or "Moon," if you press the control stick away from the basket when you dunk, it will access the "generic" dunks, so you are able to do windmills and double pumps even though its not in the Set. Someone already said this, but I'll say it again, to be more clear. Here's what each set means:

1. Generic: Dunks varying from plain dunks to plain flashy dunks. There is not much style to the dunks, but good dunkers can still dunk with flair, doing big windmills and massive power dunks, without the "style" of course of the other Sets.

2. Basic: These is the "weak sauce" from last game. Very wimpy dunks, with the player generally not jumping that high. "Generic" dunks can be accessed by using the method I stated above.

3. Basic Guard: Almost all these dunks are one-foot takeoffs. Flashy "generic" dunks can be accessed (if the rating is high).

4. Crawford: Some of his signature lay-ups with some generic dunks. A high rating will make the dunks stylized but not flashy.

5. Dwight: Most of these dunks are "poster" dunks (able to dunk on people). The rest are power dunks. Not a lot of flair in these dunks, but still some style.

6. Duncan: Tim Duncan's dunks. These are similar to "Basic" but are geared towards tall lanky players. The dunks tend to be very stiff.

7. Flashy: For "dunk contest" players. These dunks are very very flashy, such as a between the legs dunk and a unique giant windmill. Includes some basic dunks (an improvement from last year's "flashy.")

8. Iggy: Igoudala's dunks. Not a lot of variety. There are some flashy style dunks, some of his signature dunks (but not a lot). A pretty simple flashy set.

9. Kobe: Kobe's dunks. Lots of flashy one-foot takeoff dunks and two-foot takeoff power dunks. No "generic" dunks.

10. KG: Garnett's dunks. These are mostly two-foot takeoff dunks. Includes a simple but stylish windmill and some powerful post dunks.

11. Lebron: Lebron's dunks. Lots of one-foot take-off power dunks. A unique windmill dunk off two feet (reminescent of Josh Smith's dunk in the dunk contest). A unique reverse dunk. Some "generic" dunks.

12. Melo: Melo's dunks. Includes a lot of stylized two-foot takeoff one hand dunks (semi-power). Includes his high leaping one foot takeoff dunk and his high leaping two-foot takeoff dunk. Contains "Generic dunks."

13. Moon: Lots of one-foot take-off dunks. Very very similar to "Lebron's" dunks, only minus a few of Lebron's signature dunks, the addition of more "Generic" dunks, and a few of Igoudala's dunks.

14. Nash: If you jump from long distance, it will be a lay-up. If you get in the exact right spot on the floor (practice), you will dunk it. If the rating is high, its the same as "generic" dunks. This is for dunkers who need lots of space and don't dunk that often.

15. Power: Some power dunks, including some high flying dunks. No "generic" dunks.

16. Wade: Wade's dunks. Half one foot and half two foot takeoff dunks. Some signature dunks, such as Wade's "poster" dunk on Jermaine O'Neal, a two foot take-off two hand dunk (very simple but looks good), and his one-foot take off one hand dunk with his legs spread. Contains some "Generic" dunks.

17. VC: Vince's dunks. High leaping dunks. Lots of two-foot take-off dunks. Lots of two hand power slams. Lots of hanging on the rim dunks (including the elbow hang). Between the legs dunk. Vince's 360's, the one-hand, the two hand, and the windmill 360. No "Generic" dunks.

18. Others: Some of the other dunk Sets like "Paul" and "Hinrich" I assigned to nobody, since it was just awkward. "Rondo" I left with Rondo (and T.J. Ford).

Hidden dunk Sets: I was playing the Association mode and found this out. If you draft players in the NBA draft after the season, some of them have new sets, such as "Dunk 1" or "Dunk 6." I don't know how many there are or what they mean, but some seem to have new dunking animations not in the regular game. If anyone knows more, please share.

The Players: Here's what I think each player should be for dunking. I didn't include all players in the game (too many for here), and some you might disagree with. Some players are hybrids and hard to choose a Set. I generally chose the Set that would fit the player at the peak of their career if they used to be a legend (such as Vince Carter, T-Mac, Desmond Mason, and Richard Jefferson), since the game is more fun that way, and still pretty realistic. I'll explain the player if I need to.

76's:
-Elton Brand: Basic Guard (with standing dunk 99) (He dunks off one foot a lot, and isn't a high flyer, but can dunk very well if he has a spot to jump)
-Louis Williams: Wade (Watch YouTube clips of his dunks. Seems like a Basic Guard dunker, but can get up high in the air, off one and two feet.)
-Thaddeus Young: Melo (with rating 85 or above) (He's not flashy, but can be. I haven't seen too many highlights of him though. This was a hard player to make a Set for.)

Blazers:
-Roy: Basic (with a rating of 80) (He doesn't dunk much, but can if he really wanted to)
-Oden: Shaq
-Outlaw: Moon
-Bayless: Generic (with a rating of 85). (Watch YouTube's "Best of Jerryd Bayless")
-Fernandez: Basic Guard (rating of 75) (dunks off one foot for the most part; we'll find out more if he's chosen for the dunk contest this year)

Bobcats:
-Wallace: Lebron (Wallace is hard to find a good set. I just remember his massive dunk several years ago, off one-foot from near the free throw line over a guy. He also does a lot of windmills off two feet.)
-Felton: Basic (He only jumps off two-feet to dunk, usually with two hands. If not this Set, than Nash).
-Brown: Generic (with rating of 80) (He jumps really well off one-foot. He can windmill off two-feet, but not good enough to fit in the 85 category for Generic.)

Bucks:
-Jefferson: Moon
-Villanueva: KG (He can do that unique windmill)
-Alexander: VC (Watch his YouTube clips. He can elbow hang! His main style is two-foot takeoff two hand power dunks, similar to many of the VC dunks)

Bulls:
-Deng: Duncan (Possible "Basic Guard" or "Generic")
-Hinrich: Nash (with rating at 60)
-Gordon: Basic Guard (with rating at 85) (He does very basic dunks in games, but he's capable of windmills and between the legs dunks, as well as huge poster dunks.)
-Rose: Generic (with rating at 90+) (Watch YouTube's "Best of Derrick Rose")
-Noah: Duncan
-Thomas: Dwight (He posterizes people a lot)

Cavaliers:
-Szcerbiak: Basic Guard (only dunks off one-foot)
-West: Basic Guard (does simple dunks. "Basic" would work too.)
-Williams (Jawad): VC (if you add him on the game...)

Celtics:
-Pierce: Generic (rating at 75)
-Allen (Ray): Basic Guard (rating at 75) (Only dunks off one-foot, but can do reverse dunks off one-foot)
-Allen (Tony): KG (He jumps off two feet most of the time, does some nice windmill dunks, but not a "highflyer.")
-Giddens: Kobe (or Moon, or Lebron. Giddens likes those Rock the Cradle dunks, and Kobe has two of those in the set. Giddens jumps off one-foot most of the time, but can jump off two feet okay.)
-Walker: VC

Clippers:
-Davis (Baron): Basic Guard (rating at 85)
-Camby: Duncan
-Randolph: Basic (I haven't seen a lot of his highlights so not sure)
-Davis (Ricky): Flashy (He did a between the legs dunk in a game! Not to mention all the windmills.)
-Gordon: Generic (with rating at 80). (Similar to Shannon Brown)
-Thornton: Dwight (I wasn't sure on this one... he can dunk really well, but I don't know how often and how well exactly. I know he jumped over a guy in college).
-Jones (Fred): Generic (with rating at 95)
-Taylor (Mike): Generic (with rating at 85)

Grizzlies:
-Gay: Iggy (although Lebron and Moon would work)
-Mayo: Crawford (with rating at 80) (I'm sure he can do Crawford's moves, and the dunks fit perfectly with his style)
-Francis: Wade (Simply because the two-foot two hand dunk is Francis' signature dunk, not Wade's.)
-Warrick: Melo (with rating at 85) (When Warrick dunks, he stretches his whole body out. Many of the dunks in this Set are like that)
-Miles: KG
-Arthur: Power (Not sure on this one either.)

Hawks:
-Smith: Lebron
-Horford: Basic (although generic works too)
-Murray: Basic Guard
-West: Generic (with rating at 85)

Heat:
-Marion: Power (He has a weird style of movement, really jerky, and these dunks fit well)
-Beasley: Generic (with rating at 95) (He can do huge windmills, but tends to do easier dunks a lot of the time)
-Chalmers: Basic Guard
-Magloire: Basic
-Livingston: ? (Is he healthy yet? Is his vertical restored to what it was?)
-Wright: Melo (with rating at 85)

Hornets:
-Paul: Basic Guard (I hated the "Paul" set, since he can't dunk that good in real life- even if you set it at the lowest rating, 60. But he can do all the basic guard dunks for the most part)
-Daniels: Basic Guard
-Wright: Kobe

Jazz:
-Williams: Basic Guard (although generic and "Others" would work)
-Brewer: Generic (rating at 80) (Doesn't do many flashy dunks, but does very powerful basic dunks. Possibly "Basic Guard" with rating at 85)
-Miles: Generic (rating at 85)
-Martin: Basic (rating at 75 or 80)
-Garcia: Nash (rarely dunks, from what I've seen, even when open)
-Brown (Bobby): Basic (rating at 65) (You need to make him)

Knicks:
-Lee: Iggy
-Marbury: Nash (with rating at 65)
-Robinson: Nash (with rating at 95) (He rarely dunks in a game unless he's wide open or has a big running start with space to jump. But he can fly when he does get the chance)
-Chandler: Generic (with rating at 80)
-Curry: Shaq

Lakers:
-Gasol: Duncan
-Bynum: Shaq
-Farmar: Basic Guard (possibly with rating at 75)
-Vujacic: Basic Guard
-Walton: Basic
-Ariza: Moon

Magic:
-Turkoglu: Basic Guard (or Basic)
-Pietrus: Basic Guard (with rating at 80) (he has hops, but rarely uses them to their fullest on his dunks)
-Redick: Nash (with rating at 65) (He can dunk, I've seen him dunk off 1 leg and 2 legs before)

Mavericks:
-Nowitzky: Duncan
-Howard: Generic (with rating at 75 or 80)
-Terry: Basic Guard
-Stackhouse: Basic (with rating at 75)
-Green: VC

Nets:
-Harris: Basic Guard (with rating at 75) (He only jumps off one-foot)
-Douglas-Roberts: Basic Guard (with rating at 80, possibly 85)
-Dooling: Basic Guard
-Swift: Flashy (he does two hand windmills in a crowded situation)
-Ager: Generic (rating at 85)

Nuggets:
-Martin: Dwight
-Smith: Flashy
-Kleiza: Basic (He does that two foot two hand dunk a lot)
-Andersen: Moon (with rating at 85 or 90)
-Jones: Generic (with rating at 90) (Possibly Kobe)

Pacers:
-Ford: Rondo (with rating at 65) (He crouches really low when he drives, so Rondo's moves fit well. But Nash works too)
-Rush: Melo
-Jack: Basic Guard
-McRoberts: Generic (rating at 80) (He can do between the legs dunks, but in games, he does very basic dunks)

Pistons:
-Iverson: Nash (with rating at 65)
-Hamilton: Basic Guard
-Prince: Basic (with rating at 85) (He has a very weird style)
-Johnson: Lebron (the dunks fit well)

Raptors:
-Bosh: KG
-O'Neal: Shaq
-Graham: Dwight
-Adams: Generic (with rating at 85)

Rockets:
-Yao: Duncan
-McGrady: VC (at his prime, his dunking style- the way he would hang on the rim- and his windmill style fit this set. Hopefully his knee will heal and he'll get back there)
-Battier: Basic (Possibly Duncan)
-Barry: Basic Guard
-Brooks: Nash (with rating at 65)
-Hayes: KG (did you know he was in a dunk contest???)

Spurs:
-Ginoboli: Basic Guard (or Generic)
-Finley: KG
-Hairston: Dwight (he dunks with power sometimes)

Suns:
-Stoudamire: Power
-Richardson: Flashy
-Hill: Basic Guard
-Tucker: Wade

Thunder:
-Durant: Generic (with rating at 85)
-Wilkins: Basic Guard
-Mason: Flashy
-Westbrook: Basic Guard (generic would work too, but he jumps off one foot more often than two)
-Wilcox: Power (other than the flashy windmill, the dunks fit him well)
-Collison: Basic
-Swift: Shaq (with a rating of 65)

Timberwolves:
-Love: Basic
-Foye; Basic Guard (Generic would work too)
-Brewer: Basic Guard (with rating at 80)
-McCants: Generic (with rating at 80)
-Carney: Lebron (Carney jumps off one-foot a lot and can dunk from the free throw line. He can also dunk off two feet, but those are more power dunks)

Warriors:
-Ellis: Basic Guard (with rating at 75)
-Maggette: Iggy
-Biedrins: Duncan
-Wright: Duncan
-Azubuike: Generic (with rating at 80 or higher)
-Randolph: KG

Wizards:
-Arenas: Basic Guard (with rating at 75- up to 85 possibly- if you want to add the windmill.)
-Butler: Generic (with rating of 80)
-Stevenson: Generic (with rating of 85) (possibly Dwight)
-Young: Kobe (He has a lot of pumps and clutches in his dunks, like Kobe's dunks.)
-McGee: Duncan

Free Agents:
-Byars: Basic
-White: Lebron

That's most of the people I wanted to mention. Feel free to respond and give your opinions, if I missed anyone or did anyone incorrectly.

Re: Styles of Dunking for players (Sets)

I will use some of your changes. While I don't agree with having anyone above an 80 rating because I hate how many FLASHY dunks happen IN GAME. I have 4 tiers.

Well 5

Re: Styles of Dunking for players (Sets)

Those new dunk packages go like this
Dunk 1=Dwight 2.0
Dunk 2=Flashy Guard 2.0
Dunk 3=Iggy 2.0
Dunk 4=Kobe 2.0
Dunk 5= LeBron 2.0
Dunk 6= Melo 2.0
Dunk 7= Moon 2.0
Dunk 8= Power Bigman 2.0
Dunk 9= Vince 2.0
Dunk 10= Wade 2.0
Those are all the other packages that are in the game. They can only be used by the players that 2K gives them to through the roster updates or the rookies that are given them in association mode.

Cool. I've always wondered what they meant. Do you know if there's any way to unlock them for the normal game (outside of Association mode)?

You can't. They can only be used by the players that 2K gives them to in the roster updates.

On another note. I like the list. It's pretty good. I wouldn't change CP3's package though cause then that would take his sig. floater away. I would leave Wallace as Moon. It fits him better with more long and high jumping dunks. He does more of those kind than power dunks which is in LeBron's package. That package has nothing but power dunks.

Damn DC, you always complaining about dunks!

Just playin, if you dont like flashy dunks, its cool. I understand, seeing somebody doing an under-the-leg IN TRAFFIC is just disgusting. I actually did it with J.R Smith and man it did not look good at all.

Re: Styles of Dunking for players (Sets)

Andre Iguodala's dunk package doesnt fit well with Maggette because Maggette is a 2foot jumper while Iguodala's dunk are mostly off of 1foot.

Also Jawad Williams and Bill Walker shouldnt have VC's dunk package they can get up, but there not capable of Vince type dunks.
