Off-Season Recruiting

Does anyone understand off-season recruiting? I don't. Is there a whole new class of players?? or what? Where did they come from.

They are next year's recruits, by what I know.

Off-season recruiting is full of the incoming freshman that have "yet to decide." Any player you recruit during this time will be on next year's roster. This is about a 6 week period I believe.

Pre-season "recruiting," on the other hand, allows you to target high-school seniors that you wish to recruit DURING the season. You can also red-shirt players and receive walk-ons during pre-season.

Re: Off-Season Recruiting

The players signed over the summer definitely show up on the roster in the Fall, but what doesn't make sense is that there is a brand-new ESPN Top 100 List. There are way too many highly ranked players for this to be the same senior class. It is as if there are somehow two separate senior classes.

I have been jokingly referring to off-season recruiting as "second-chance" recruiting. IMO, this aspect of the game is a major flaw for realism.

I don't know why, but I noticed that sometimes in the top 100, there is no #1, #1 overall and position ranked guy?? Anyone else notice that?

Re: Off-Season Recruiting

I thought that #1 thing was the case but it never turned out that way, I always eventually found him. Apparently sometimes the ESPN top 100 lists player who overall better. So you may have a #29 NAT Ranked PG who's #2 at PG but he does everything so well he's a top 100. Whereas the guys who's the number 1 PG has quick passing excellent field good offense and everything you want in a PG. But he has low discipline or bad potential So he's not a top 100.

To comment on the Off-Season thing though. I rarely even find 5 star guys in the regular season but the offseason has an entire list of them. Also none of the in season guys are there and I get extra scholarships to recruit. Either way I get 54 ovr and 67 ovr guys during the season but during the offseason I get 80 ovr and 86 ovr guys. So...maybe it's like during the season you don't have the resources or whatever to search the entire country for recruits and only recruit in your pipeline and close states. But when the offseason comes you can spread it out over the nation and get to everyone.

I'm not sure but this may be the case. I guess I could confirm it next season by seeing if I can find some of my targets from during the season in the offseason.

Re: Off-Season Recruiting

There ends up being over 200 five stars. But, when they are over like 50th overall, they completely suck. Sorry, but how do I get a 5 star rated 68 overall? Seriously.

But I don't understand off-season recruiting. I mean, yeah, I get to use my scholarships of the transfer and guy who went pro, but it's just dumb.

Re: Off-Season Recruiting

Another recruiting oddity occurs when All-State teams and Mister Basketball award winners are announced long before the high school basketball season has ended.

And, players are listed to have signed during the season when they have apparently only committed.
