Tempo Tips

I have a hard time playing with teams who have a Half-Court tempo set. I can never get it at a slow tempo. Any tips?

You have to slooow it way down and use the entire shot clock basically. I have a hard time pacing myself to play that style. I like middle of the road and up-tempo, but slowing it that far down gets to be tedious for me.

Use the shot clock to your advantage. Run multiple sets to get good looks at the basket or run motion for a while and try to find an open, high percentage shot. Again, USE THE SHOT CLOCK.

On defense, I prefer Man to Man when playing in the half-court. Your goal here is not to create a turnover as much as it is to force a shot clock violation (technically a turnover, but you get the picture). Work using the double team at the right time in the post or in the corners. Not only will this pressure the opponent into a potential turnover, but it can eat up some shot clock and slow your opponent down too.

Playing as Gtown I know how difficult it is to run with a Half-Court tempo team. It takes extreme patience and the willingness to use the entire shot clock. your goal is to hold onto the ball between 25-35 secs per possession. Multiple sets like what has been said.

I personally LOVE half court sets. Playing with Illinois and scoring 55 points a game is a thrill that I'm not used to.

I use GTown in my dynasty and it took a while to get use to it. I occasionally depending on the team adjust to a balance tempo. Mixing it up throws off you opponents at least in my mind, lol.

Re: Tempo Tips

Yeah it takes some getting used to. My main issue is that I think in terms of NBA timing, so I run the ball up the court a lot of the time and find myself finishing the play I'm running with 25 seconds remaining haha. I play with Hawaii in my dynasty and I have them running halfcourt. I really love the way you can grind out a game in NCAA, especially compared to 2K9 -- it feels like you really get rewarded for knowing your plays and players, and that shines even more when you're running a syrupy slow game.

My tempo tends to show as 'Balanced' on the meter most of the time, but I like changing things up during the game depending on how my opponent is attacking and defending. If I get on a big run, I try to extend it rather than sititng on my laurels winding down the clock becuase of the way that teams will catch fire on the game... I really grind it out if I have a 10 pt lead in the late 2nd though.

Well, after watching a few G'town games this year, I think they are turning into a more balanced team. Speaking in terms of the tempo meter I would put G'town right at the divide between half-court and balanced.
