NHL 09 Equipment and Ratings Changes - Community Effort

Well, as we all know, EA finally released their roster update, and while they did a really good job of making the AHL squads up-to-date, it seems very little was done in terms of ratings and equipment adjustments for NHL players.

I thought it would be a good idea then, if we had a thread dedicated to tweaking this aspect of the rosters. At the very least, it would give help to the people who are providing roster updates (eg. Flyermania, though he apparently is done with NHL 09). With enough community involvement, we could probably turn this into a downloadable update (I could provide one for PS3), but that remains to be seen.

I realize there is already a community-effort thread for X360 rosters. However, I think that ratings and equipment adjustment really deserves its own thread. To me, just making transactions and up****** lines is pretty basic.

I'm going to start tonight with the Ducks, and post some of the adjustments I've made. These adjustments will be based off the most recent update. The one thing that I won't touch for now is goalie equipment, as I've heard petrpuck is going to put those adjustments on his website.

Re: NHL 09 Equipment and Ratings Changes - Community Effort

I've gone home for the holidays, and have no access to my PS3, so I'm not gonna be able to make any updates for at least another week.

Although I'd be more than happy to spearhead this myself, with school and other commitments, it could be well into February before I could update all 30 teams. I'd greatly appreciate any help from the community, specifically with the equipment. Just go on to any photo site (jamd.com is the site I use) and update away, it takes an hour at most for any given team.

You can't really, you just have to use your best judgment.

For stick flex, your average-sized NHL player uses about 90 flex, 100 is for bigger d-men. I wouldn't go any lower than the 90 flex (though Brett Hull apparently used a 65 flex stick later in his career).

For stick blade pattern, I usually use the middle two (on the screen). The top one is good for snipers, and especially for smaller guys who need a bit of extra kick from their blade. The bottom one is good for danglers who use their backhand alot.

With blade radius, it's almost always 11", unless the guy is massive (6'5" and up), in which case I'd choose 13". As an aside, the blade radius option is kinda stupid, IMO, since most hockey players are concerned with the radius of the blade hollow (ie. the angle of the skate edge).
