Your greateast NHL'09 Upsets!!

You gotta love the underdog....what in your opinion has been your best "upset" offline or online?

Or maybe an upset that fell just short?

Or maybe you toppled an "exploiter" online and would like to tell your story (lord knows I have a few of those!)

Let's here about those upsets or those "Miracles on Ice" that fell just short!

Re: Your greateast NHL'09 Upsets!!

I'll start us off with my best upset to date.

A 5-1 shilacking of the New Jersey Devils at the hands of lowly L.A. Kings.

This game was played online and to my surpirse the other guy didn't quit...which usually happens when you put on a pounding.

I scored 3 goals in the first and outshot my opponent 15-3 for the period....we cruised the rest of the way.

I enjoy using the Kings especially with those classic yellow and purple retro jerseys.

I'll post some more almost upsets and a beating of a top cheeser as well later.

I beat the #47th ranked player in the world 5-4 in OT after being down 4-0 to start the 3rd. He used Detroit(Go figure) and scored 3 straight goals using the wraparound cheese and another goal where he poked it in while Roloson had covered the puck. I got a 5min powerplay 30 seconds into the period and scored 3 times. Souray twice from the point, and Ethan Moreau on a rebound, and I tied the game up on a 6-on-3 powerplay goal with 12 seconds left on a goal by Ales Hemsky.

In overtime right off a faceoff I poked the puck away from Lidstrom and beat Osgood fivehole for the win.

Re: Your greateast NHL'09 Upsets!!

My brother was the all-time Montreal team, and I was the Hershey Bears (AHL). He's about as good as me skill-wise, so it's not like I was a lot better and it made it even.

Anyways, he was up 4-1 with 2 minutes left. I scored a goal and was like oh, sweet, whatever. Anyways, I scored again with about a minute left. Then, with about 5 seconds left, I set up a beauty of a play and tied it up.

In OT, I scored a couple minutes in.

In EASHL, 2v2. We get up 3-1 early against a good team, but by the third we are down 6-3 after five unanswered goals. With 6 minutes left we score one. Then another on the PP with about 2 minutes left. Looks like all is for naught when they have us pinned in our own zone for the last 30 seconds but I manage to poke the puck off their defenseman and score on the breakaway with 1.2 seconds left. We win it in OT, 7-6. My friend scored six goals of our seven goals, but I'm happy with the one I got that sent it to OT (esp. since I play as defense).

We have an attitude that we are not going to lose. It does not always work, but it is surprising how often you come back when you just stay focused and don`t get discouraged, no matter what the score.

Re: Your greateast NHL'09 Upsets!!

Was playin offline against the CPU using the Sabres and was against Montreal. 3rd period, found myself down 5-1. I changed a few line strategies and upped my forecheck. With the aide of a few powerplays, controlling the puck all over the ice, getting great set-up opps and shooting lanes, I managed to rally back and tie the game 5 all with about a minute left. Won a faceoff in my defensive zone and after a bit of jockeying for position, I spotted Max Afinogenov skating hard up ice alone. Sent him a great saucer pass and ignited him on a breakaway. Faked my shot, which caused Price to go down prematurely, took it to my backhand and scored the go-ahead breakway goal with about 10 seconds left. After that, it was just lock down, and I managed a great come-from-behind 6-5 victory.

I`m not bothered when people pick Detroit. They are strong, but Osgood seems weak in the game. They are probably better with Conklin.

Pittsburgh, Anaheim and San Jose seem like the strongest teams to me, but if someone is playing with a top team I just pick one comparably good so there`s nothing to whine about.
