Why did Pittsburgh drop out for losing to the #16 team in the country on the road by a touchdown?

#25 Ole Miss 127 votes

Others Receiving Votes
#26 West Virginia 120
#27 Pittsburgh 108
#28 Iowa 54

Wow, Iowa really impressed some voters enough to put them into their top 25. Ole Miss entered the top 25 by beating LSU. But how good is LSU after barely beating Troy after falling down 31-3 the week before?

Iowa within striking distance of Ole Miss and the top 25.

I wonder whether the other polls will place Ole Miss and Iowa in the top 25...

I expected Ole Miss in the top 25 by the end of the season, and they impressed me at LSU, although the Tigers are having a down year.

Great to see us all the way at 18, maybe this will be close to the Harris Poll and we'll be in the top 20 of the BCS later tonight.

Re: AP Poll 11/23/08

Been trying to tell people all year that Ole Miss isn't a bad team, but a good team that had bad breaks. God to see them in the top 25.

Agreed. If Ole Miss can win impressively against Mississippi St at home Friday, they could move up even higher.

Ole Miss didn't make the Top 25 in the USA Today poll. Check out the receiving votes category in that (USA Today) poll...

USA Today Poll Others Receiving Votes
Pittsburgh 43, Ole Miss 40, LSU 30, Iowa 26, Western Michigan 20, Connecticut 15, Maryland 9, Tulsa 6, South Florida 3, Nebraska 3, South Carolina 2, Miami (FL) 2, California 2, Virginia Tech 2, Wake Forest 1.Dropped From Rankings
LSU 18, Pittsburgh 19, Maryland 23.

That's crazy.

That means...
#26 Pitt 43 votes
#27 Ole Miss 40 votes
#28 LSU 30 votes
#29 Iowa 26 votes
#30 Western Michigan 20 votes

I don't know what's crazier, the fact that Iowa is within 14 points of Ole Miss, or whether Iowa is within 4 points of LSU, a team that tied Bama 21-21 in regulation.

With the teams that Florida, Bama, and Penn St couldn't beat in regulation being so close in the polls, it just goes to show how balanced the conferences are with good teams like Iowa Ole Miss and LSU there to challenge the best.

Iowa, Ole Miss, and LSU have proved that they can hang with the top of their conference in the games versus the conference front runners(s). It's nice to see the voting so close.

Can Ole Miss do enough versus Miss St to impress the USA pollsters enough to end the regular season in the top 25?

The AP poll doens't factor into the BCS formula any more, does it?

Also, Western Michigan is getting some respect at #30 in this poll. Remember, they beat Illinois, a team from the Big Ten by 6 points.

Re: AP Poll 11/23/08

I'm sorry, but WHO has Florida beaten to deserve that ranking? They've beaten ONE team in the current top 25!

If Cincy was up one spot, OU will(if we beat OSU next week) have beaten 4 teams in the top 15.
