Dallas Cowboys War Room

Ok guys, looking at the success of the Lion's thread inspired me to make another Cowboys Off-season thread. The first one ended or sanked because of not only Cowboy fans bashing Quincy Carter but fans of other teams coming in bashing Quincy. This got waaaaaaaaaaaay off topic and killed the thread.

Can we all agree RIGHT NOW that no one trusts Quincy Carter. We all agree that he may not be the future of the franchise. With that said, there is a good chance that QUINCY CARTER WILL BE YOUR STARTING QB GOING INTO NEXT SEASON! DEAL WITH IT! We are aware of the fact that we need to explore other options at the position but lets leave that to Jerry Jones and Bill Parcells.

Troy Hambrick sucks. That's all that needs to be said.

Well, if there were any questions as to who is running things down here, the question has been answered as Jerry would have been slinging money everywhere at the start of free agency! Jerry and Little Danny would have been slugging it out moneywise! However, there's a new sheriff in town and contrary to popular belief, The Tuna IS in fact, buying the groceries.

Jerry on the Free Agent Philosophy:
Quote:

"To get as much information as we can and get as familiar as to how they played. Be familiar with them, as well as them get familiar with where we are and how they might fit in to what we're going to be doing this upcoming season. All of this period in free agency is a time to basically sell what we're about, if we have an interest in them. Most of the time, we need an update on the individuals involved, in terms of what they're thinking and their enthusiasm about being a Dallas Cowboy."

Unless a sweet deal falls into our lap, don't expect the Boys to make a splash in free agency right away. Jerry is hoping that the history of the franchise and playing for Parcells will be an added advantage to signing guys without breaking the bank.

Priorities:
1. Solidify the offensive line- As of yesterday, Ryan Young was cut. Currently, we have Kurt Vollers and Southern Miss alum Torrin Tucker at RT. Clearly, we don't want to go into the season with either of them as the starter. We have Adam Meadows, an unrestricted FA from the Colts, coming in to visit tomorrow. He's done a great job protecting Payton Manning over the years so he should be able to continue doing a good job here. He can also fill in at G too so that's another plus on him.

Andre Gurode, I don't know what happened to this guy last year as he surprisingly regressed under a hard-nosed offensive lines coach George Warhop and HC Bill Parcells. It's usually the other way around. Obviously, this will be his "put up or shut up" year or he'll be sent packing. We also signed Ginaro DiNapoli to a 2 year extension. He can play both G and C. This will be important as we don't know if our 2003 2nd Pick Al Johnson, will be at full strength following microfracture surgery on his knee. As far as Larry Allen goes, just give us what you can big guy. You do need to give a little bit of the money back.

2. WR- With the addition of Keyshawn Johnson, it seems as though our receiving core will be solid. Galloway will probably be gone either by trade or being cut. Hopefully, the Bucs can get it done because if we have to cut him at June 1st, teams will be strapped for cash by that time and that would suck for him. With KJ, Glenn, Campbell, Witten, Anderson (out of the backfield) we should be okay. I didn't mention Bryant because who knows with that guy. He's in the same category with Gurode.

3. Running Backs- Hambrick or you'll be in another role but definitely won't be featured. I would like to see Duce Staley here as he's a servicable back. I'm still holding out hope for something with Corey Dillon. Most here in Dallas would like to see us take Greg Jones with our 1st pick in the draft. There are rumors going around that Parcells is really high on Oklahoma State tailback, Tatum Bell. He has good size for an NFL RB. He's 5-11 205 and had an average 40 time of 4.43 at the Scouting Combine. Living in Big 12 country, I've seen the guy play a few times and he's solid. Those two guys mentioned would give us a solid veteran and a kid to groom for later.

On the other side of the ball:

4. DBs- Last year, we were pretty solid in the secondary. With starters Mario Edwards, rookie Terence Newman, veterans Roy Williams and Darren Woodson. Mario Edwards was shaky at times (ok, a lot of times) but for most of the season he was solid. He's an unrestricted free agent. We are in no hurry to sign him. Cowboys will let him test the FA waters to gauge what kind interest he has.

On my wish list is Eagles unrestricted FA Bobby Taylor. He's the big corner we need on the other side of the field. He's only 30 and probably has a few years left in him. If we could somehome land him, that would give us one of the best in the league.

Getting tired so i'm going to wrap this up

5. LBs- We're pretty solid at LB although i'd like to see us get bigger up front. Al Singleton was a surprise last year as he overacheived beyond anything we imagined. With Parcells planning to play a few 3-4 sets this year, I could see him going after recently released Jessie Armstead, a Dallas native, to add depth to the position.

6. Defensive Line- Yeah, this is pretty much our week link. First, we have unrestricted FA Ebenezer Ekuban who has turned into a 1st round bust. Him being resigned is not totally out of the question as Parcells has spoken openly about trying to use him as a "specialist". Ideas of lining him up at LB and as a pass rush specialist have been tossed around.

Definition of a "Parcells Guy"- A player that knows what the Tuna wants. A player that Parcells doesn't have to worry about because that player is going to do what is expected of him and also going to get the job done.

On the other side of the line, Greg Ellis and La'Roi Glover fit the definition of "Parcells Guy" to a tee. You don't have to worry about them slacking off. Both are efficient and perform at a high level. Glover's a Pro Bowler, what else can you say. Clearly the other DT position needs to be addressed unless Willie Blade can be effective next year as he was this year along with the platoon of other DT's that we ran in there.

Bertrand Berry, unrestricted FA of the Denver Broncos is scheduled to visit Dallas tomorrow. He was among the team leaders in sacks with 11.5 a year ago. He'd probably be a good fit here in big D. On my DE wishlist is Grant Wistrom of the St. Louis Rams. I think he could be another "Parcells Guy". I think he'd be a solid starter on the defensive line and will also have a reasonable price tag. Another possibilty is Chad Bradtzke of the Colts if he's let go.

Well,I'm tired now, any Cowboy fans have anything to add, feel free!

LEAVE THE QUINCY TALK FOR ANOTHER THREAD!

Haha SoMiss, I think you covered just about everything. And I would definitely love to see Bobby Taylor/Grant Wistrom here.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Cowboys released offensive tackle Ryan Young and gave Torrin Tucker a two-year deal worth $305,000 and $380,000 in 2004 and 2005, respectively.

Defensive tackle Willie Blade, running back Aveion Cason, tackle Javiar Collins, running back Troy Hambrick, center Matt Lehr, safety Lynn Scott, linebacker Markus Steele, tight end James Whalen and receiver Randal Williams were tendered the minimum one-year, restricted free-agent offer of $628,000. The tender gives the Cowboys the right of first refusal if the player gets an offer from another team.

Regarding Blade (third round), Lehr (fifth), Steele (fourth) and Whalen (fifth), the Cowboys would get draft-pick compensation if they signed with another team.

Following their tenders as exclusive rights free agents, place-kicker Billy Cundiff ($380,000), cornerback Andrew Davison ($380,000) and running back Erik Bickerstaff (305,000) can only sign with the Cowboys.

Can you tell me some of the names slated for visits? I hope they make an offer to Berry. Adding a pass rushing end should be on top of the priority list. Of course adding a running back should also be at or near the top.

Re: Cowboys War Room II

Thanks. I would like to see Staley in before he goes elsewhere. I think he'd help our offense a ton not only running but catching out of the backfield. I think our draft will focus on depth on both lines as well as corners. I expect we'll bring in a veteran tackle and corner in free agency. Any thoughts?
