2K.
The EA game was like playing with training wheels where the ball always went straight and you couldn't shank it if you wanted to.

Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour

Voted 2K.

PGA 2K25

Pros
- course designer/lots of user created courses to play
- cross-platform play
- societies (including TGCTours)
- Evo swing is quite fun
- graphics improved from previous 2K games
- has 3 of the 4 majors

Cons
- missing The Masters
- graphics still don't feel "next-gen"
- really small selection of gear/clubs/clothing
- MyCareer has leaderboard issues, and gets old fast - the new "Composure" and "Followers" system has zero impact on really anything
- lots of nagging bugs and issues that affect many areas of the game (societies, Quests, MyCareer, etc.)
- the whole "VC nerf at launch" debacle

EA PGA Tour

Pros:
- all four majors, including The Masters and Augusta, and the Ryder Cup
- next-gen graphics
- lots of gear and equipment
- solid career mode
- lots of challenges to do

Cons:
- gameplay feels like "golf on rails"
- RNG means your shots go anywhere within a dispersion zone
- some shot types are very overpowered and are super arcade-y
- rough has basically little to no impact
- online modes are lacking, no cross-play
- it's no longer being supported, and there's no sign of any more EA golf to come

Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour

I wish we could put 2K's swing mechanics, lie/rough penalties, and online components into EA golf. That would be my ultimate golf game.

I also am not a fan of all the "shot types" in either game.

As it stands, 2K25 is probably my favorite golf game ever. Tiger Woods 13 would probably be close if it could be remastered and without load times but 2K25 has the best swing components in any golf game. You can feel when you made a bad swing and there is direct cause and effect. It just feels good. I love the pace of the game (no loading, waiting around, etc.). Hopefully they keep working on career mode (more real courses, rotating majors, The Masters, better AI scoring, etc ).

I am enjoying 2K25. I need to give the career mode and better chance perhaps as I find myself playing online modes most of the time. I also think they need to come up with some sort of handicap system for the ranked tournaments so players that are mediocre like myself can compete against fellow mediocre players (like TGC Tours with their different levels).

I have said it before, but EA Golf just kind of makes me angry. They have a decent game here but then they throw in some of the worst swing mechanics in golf game history. I would have settled for an old Links 386 3 click if it was challenging and had no randomness (instead they give us the slowest 3 click meter ever and a swing stick swing where it feels like work to not hit it straight and some random landing windows.....and virtually no penalties for sand/rough). The gameplay is just not compelling for me.

It'd be fun if they were both in active development and competing head to head.

As it is, it's hard to not have opinions be colored a bit by one being much newer and in totally active mode ... with the other being abandonware now.

Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour

My opinion really doesn't matter here, but I just hate the 2k golf games. They look horrible, sound horrible, I lose interest after a day or two. Sometimes you just have preferences, and 2k really is not a preference. Sure EA has its critics, and some issues, but it pales in comparison to me of the issues 2k golf has. The only thing I somewhat like in 2k is course creator, but after you do it once, and play it, again, the fun factor isn't there, I just lose interest and what ever money I paid for it. For those that like it, great!!! Keep enjoying. I am not trying to change anyone's mind here...

I am sure this gets crucified by some loyal 2k fans, and like I said, if you like the game, great, keep on keeping on.

Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour

After playing 2K25 last weekend, I agree with above and I prefer EA for the same reasons. 2K is a better golf game, you get what you hit which is not always the case with EA, too much RNG and the ball is going all over the place even against cross wind sometimes. But somehow, 2K is boring me in no time. All HB games since the beginning did that for me.

I have not been playing EA much lately, tournaments are broken since Apr 1. You play, all your stats are wiped out automatically and your ranking is 0 like you have never play a tournament since the game came out. Same for head to head online, we're playing for nothing.

I agree with the majority of this. However, since 2k21, 2k has just gotten too predatory for my liking to say I enjoy their game more. I feel like I spend way too much time in the menus just trying to get to a game whereas EA PGA Tour wasn't so "in your face, spend money" that I am able to get on the course in much less time and without frustrations.

So EA PGA Tour gets my vote.
