Finally..

Improved substitution logic for the bullpen and starting pitchers will deliver enhanced statistical realism for both relievers and starting pitchers. Closers and setup men will see more realistic usage and more innings pitched. Long relievers will also see more realistic usage and a lower number of innings pitched. Starting pitchers should see a reduction in the number of innings they pitch, including fewer complete games, shutouts, etc.

Wow, just wow. I really love how SDS wants to make this a game for the players. This is really not normal in this day and age for a mainline developer.

I wanted to wait until Tuesday to get the normal edition. After reading the patch notes, I just bought the Digital Deluxe Edition to show my support.

Seeing everything as described here so far, especially the complete games being lowered and the bullpen use at least in sims, which is all I've looked over.



Here's an example of something I think we've all seen before - I think the D'backs absolutely would have gone to the long pen in the 5th down 2 runs before this patch (and for about the last 5 iterations of this series) and threw one of them for at least 3 innings. Their long pen during this sim is Ryne Nelson, Yilber Diaz, and Jordan Montgomery - and NONE of them saw the field. Zona actually managed the pen like they were trying to win the game, and sure enough, they did.

This is one of many I've seen - the bullpen use has changed from game to game. Not going to try to judge if it's exactly where it needs to be based on small sample size, but is it different? I think I can definitively say Yes. And if you have smarter pen use like that spread out across a whole season, I think the final stat numbers should look better too.
