Newbie here: how to measure strength of a shot

Hello… newbie here to PGA2K25.
I’m enjoying the game with one problem. On my approach shots how do I measure the strength of the shot?
My HUD gives me for example, 86% but it seems if I hit it that hard it goes over the green. I’m having a hard time figuring out the strength of shot meter. What am I missing? Maybe someone could point to a video or a link that could help me please?
And yes, I’ve been through training videos and it hasn’t really helped with this.

I'd check out this video from Gamer Ability on the swing and how it all works: https://youtu.be/yVE3xAeJMrw?si=j5LWfrW12oFQGv9C
