Draft Discussion - Video of latest draft results

There has been discussion in various threads on the forum about the draft and potential shortcomings, issues, etc... I can't remember what all threads that discussion took place in so I thought I would post a new thread on the topic and share my latest draft results.

Below are the results of my latest draft from the 2030 season. As you can see there is a good mixture of overall ratings, potential ratings, and guys who are on the cusp, if not already, MLB ready and there are others who are projected to take time to develop in the minors. There are a few guys with overalls in the 70's and a few in the 40's, but a good majority are in the 50's and 60's.

Also there were no RP or CP taken in the 1st round.

Just thought I would share for discussion and feedback.

I don't think any players should be in the 70s, for starters.

How often do you have guys get drafted and start right away? Very rare.

I know the game tries to mix the drat with international free agency, but I doubt that all the guys in the 70s are international. And if they're supposed to be like international FA, maybe change ther ages.

Secondly, it's nice that no RPs or CPs are taken in round 1, but why are they ranked so high when you scout? That seems odd.

I think that is the video game aspect of things so that players don't have to wait a full season or two to see highly ranked/drafted players be of MLB caliber. And no, players rated in the 70s isn't tied to just international players.

I believe they are ranked so high is because, especially with closers, there are so few that are available so they are highly coveted and thus ranked higher than maybe they should be with the MLB/team rankings. Good news is that typically RP and CP are available in later rounds, moreso RP than closers.

Also keep in mind that a lot of guys that end up in the bullpen and a closer are starters in college or high school that don't work out as starters when they get to the upper minors, so they are then put into the bullpen.

The game, for video game purposes, has to assign players as RP and CP in order for the CPU to build out its roster. In a perfect world they would just have pitchers and then their journey thru the minors to the big leagues would depict whether they are in the rotation or the bullpen.

Maybe one day we will get something like dynamic positional changes which could possibly help in this regard.

This is another reason why I'd argue closers/rps shouldn't be ranked so high.

I too am hoping there will soon just be pitchers, and the AI will be smart enough to determine their role (starter, reliever, closer) like OOTP.

Honestly anyone 70 or above in this game is major league ready. I've brought guys up with an overall of way less than that. Having someone rated that high in the draft should be very, very rare and shouldn't be happening every draft. That's in generational talent territory.

Re: Draft Discussion - Video of latest draft results

Going to copy and paste the numbers I posted elsewhere about roster composition of 26 man rosters in 2034.

Ok so this is going to be every player above 74 on the 26 man opening day roster in 2034

BAL: 21
BOS: 20
NYY: 21
TB: 17
TOR: 18
CWS: 24
CLE: 26
DET: 17
KC: 23
MIN: 16
HOU: 18
LAA: 19
OAK: 20
SEA: 20
TEX: 25

Lowest overall on any AL team is 63 overall on the 26 man roster.

ATL: 22
MIA: 18
NYM: 19
PHI: 21
WAS: 21
CHC: 23
CIN: 19
MIL: 23
PIT: 19
STL: 21
ARI: 22
COL: 21
LAD: 20
SD: 25
SF: 22

Lowest NL player is 61 on a 26 man roster.

As we can see, player progression is alive and well.

My original numbers with just players drafted in the franchise mode being 74 and over:

BAL: 5
BOS: 10
NYY: 6
TB: 17
TOR: 11
CWS: 12
CLE: 26
DET: 15
KC: 10
MIN: 12
HOU: 6
LAA: 11
OAK: 12
SEA: 5
TEX: 11

169/390 (43%)

ATL: 9
MIA: 11
NYM: 13
PHI: 8
WAS: 16
CHC: 14
CIN: 10
MIL: 11
PIT: 10
STL: 6
ARI: 7
COL: 14
LAD: 10
SD: 7
SF: 9

We can definitely see that players progress decently well and that all of the 30 teams have various amounts of players generated by the game being contributors.

Also 14/29 players rated 90+ are game generated players in draft classes and not prospects already on the base roster. This shows that the talent pool has progressed.

Re: Draft Discussion - Video of latest draft results

Has anyone else seen tons of picks go unsigned? I just had my first draft and it seems like nearly every team had multiple guys go unsigned - including a ton of first rounders. Wasn't sure if that's a more widespread issue or just something I came across
