Offensive Rebounding ?

I am getting killed on the offensive boards by the CPU to the point where it feels like ratings don’t even matter.

Playing superstar level the CPU is getting about 2 to 2 1/2 times more O rebounds per game.

The bad part is it leads to the CPU getting anywhere from 10-15 more shots per game

I am really struggling to lock in a setting where I can win most games with teams I should and lose with teams I should.

Just seems like it’s all about difficulty this year and less about ratings more than I remember in the past.

The biggest culprit seems like O Rebounds but I am worried that just adjusting sliders will just skew it back the other way and it still won’t be really ratings dependent and every game will be about even rebounds.

Any suggestions?

Change your defensive settings so your team crashes the boards and that should help. Also take control of someone down low after a shot and boxing out help.

Re: Offensive Rebounding ?

The AI being able to get much more rebounds than the player is a well known issue on higher difficulties. In my testing offensive rebounding needs to be about 7/8 higher than the defensive rebounding of the CPU and about 4/5 for the contrary for it to be balanced (however it also depends on how good you are at boxing out etc. - I admit I'm not the best at it).

Another impactful slider on the matter is vertical (all physical attributes for the CPU are hardcoded higher for the CPU, some testing in the past has shown to be about 4/5 points of difference in HOF).

I feel like when i take control it makes it worse. I try using the box out button and It almost seems to make the ball gravitate right towards the other team.

I changed sliders last night. Upped my D Reb to 75 and CPU O Reb to 35 and it was better but now I feel as if I just skewed it to force more rebounds to me and isn't really ratings based.

This is where I am not a fan of difficulty levels in a sense. It skews it just to give players more challenge. For example if I have a great D Rebounder he should be great regardless of what level I play on, especially if I don't take control of him during the rebound sequence but it just make everone automatically better.

Does anyone know which level balances it out the most so that's it's really ratings based ?

Should you just custom everything to 50 or 0 that is more ratings based but what should your starting difficulty be ?

Difficulties below superstar don't give the CPU hardcoded bonuses, however there are things at which the CPU will be still inherently better at, and rebounding (especially offensive) being one of those things (making contested shots, especially at the end of the clock, being another one for example). This year around, then, the CPU also uses rhythm shooting so if you don't do likewise you will be at a disadvantage at equal parameters with shooting, so you have to take this in consideration.

This to say that no matter which difficulty you play on you will still have to adjust sliders a little - even taking in consideration how you play and the level you play at - if you really want a full "balanced" gameplay. All star is considered the difficulty more equal as a base because no bonuses are given either to you or to the CPU, however gameplan wise (as in defensive schemes and the likes) the CPU will play worse than on superstar or HOF and for this many prefer to play at the highest difficulties and then just compensate for the hard-coded bonuses given to the CPU.

Re: Offensive Rebounding ?

I don't think I've ever had the CPU offensive rebounding slider set higher than 10. Otherwise I get too many possessions where they get multiple offensive boards, and too many crappy animations where the ball warps to them

I play on HOF and don’t have any issues with teams out rebounding me on the offensive boards. Mind you the personnel matters, but if you set your team to crash the boards and box out, you shouldn’t give up too many offensive boards unless you play against a team that has two bigs, which even then if you have a bunch of guys crashing you should be able to clear them out.

Plenty of other things the CPU cheats on at higher difficulties but I don’t see rebounding as one of them.
