Run-blocking issues

A couple of examples of blocking issues I've seen recently:

I ran this Power run play out of Gun Wing Tight Z.

The wing tight end on the strong side (2-TE side on the right side of the play art) is meant to motion to the weak side (single TE left side). From there he is supposed to be the "kick-out" part of a standard Power scheme, with the backside guard leading through the hole.

I wish I would've recorded what actually happened because instead of kicking-out the left side edge defender as he should my TE went back across the formation to the right and ran into the pulling guard causing neither of them to actually execute their block and the play being blow up.

In the same game I ran this Alert RPO. Defense was in a 2-high safety look, and the linebackers stayed in the box to stop the run, so I threw the swing. My 2 receivers should've blocked the corner and nickel/slot defender leaving my RB 1-1 with the safety who was coming from deep. Instead both receivers moved towards the slot/nickel defender, leaving the corner unblocked. Then to make it worse neither receiver actually tried to block the nickel, both just stood near him, so both defenders were on me as soon as the RB caught the swing.

These were just 2 examples of really bad blocking I've had. It's happened occasionally all season but was much worse in this game I played at Florida State. Maybe this is down to composure in a tough road environment but I've seen too much bad blocking for that to be it. Going to see if the other user in our online dynasty is having similar issues and willin to look at sliders. Anyone else have any similar issues?

Do you remember what defense you faced? I’ve had this play/formation in my playbook for 15 seasons and never noticed the scenario you mentioned. I also just hit the practice field and ran it 15 times without the issue. Often the weak side TE (on the left) has the RE lined up across from him and will block him and the motioning TE will turn up in the C gap, but I’ve never seen him turn up into the B gap or less and definitely never hit the pulling RG.

Re: Run-blocking issues

I'm in year 3 with Air Force and the Flexbone definitely has a couple broken plays.

Top of my head, I can think of two:

Load option/Counter option cannot be run towards a "1-technique" DT, he will be unblocked and tackle the QB immediately.

I don't know what defense I was facing. I've also used this play successfully before. This is the only time I remember it going this badly. It's like the TE thought it was a split-zone play where he was supposed to seal the back side.

Re: Run-blocking issues

Check out inside zone from the Gunn Trey Offset formation. Watch the play side tackle.

Ran into a similar issue again. "Wing" TE did not run into the pulling guard this time, but did again block in the wrong direction. Defense was playing Saw Blitz 3 from the 3-3-5 Stack formation.
The "wing" TE that had went in motion blocked in the wrong direction. Neither the "in-line" TE on the left, or my left tackle blocked anybody and the RE blew up the play as soon as I had control of the RB. This game was at home against a bad UConn team. My issues in the previous game could have been partially caused by composure playing at Florida State, that was not the case here though.

Re: Run-blocking issues

Another play I'm seeing issues with is Lead Read Option. I have this F Lead Read Option out of Pistol Strong in my playbook. The F follows the blocking path he should and leads for the QB if he keeps (usually blocking the backside safety).

When the lead blocker is a TE though such as this from Gun Slot Left Wk or this from Gun Wing Slot Wk, the TE almost always turns up field too early, trying to block a LB that stayed in the box. Then if I keep the ball with the QB, there is no lead blocker on the outside like their should be.
