Firing Coordinators As Head Coach

Firing offensive and/or defensive coordinators. I am curious as to what the result here is. I mean I am still the one playing this game as a head coach. My off-season is coming up, and I am just curious what to look for. My team gave up 52 points the other night, but I am really the one that called those defensive plays. So, I know if I find someone better, it helps with... recruiting, but I don't control those coach/coordinator abilities for the defensive coordinator, right?

They don’t control it but if your defense really does suck a change could be good. If you want better players find a recruiter or better development a motivator. If you as a head coach already have both then get tactician. Just fill in the gap of your HC and it can really help out. I’ve learned to focus your HC on one or two branches and before you get one of the expert boosts(Master Motivator/Scheme Guru) just save up coaching points. Remember you only have 50 levels, if you want those more unique tiers and boost you need to save in some areas and get coordinators to fill in the rest.

I am curious about this as well, but in a different way. Do the coordinators affect the playcalling from the "Coach Suggestion" in calling the plays? Has anyone looked into it or seen/heard anything that supports that?

The OC/DC is a pretty big thing that a lot of people will overlook. Thats because it's kind of hidden with the way the fire / hiring process works with only being able to fire them one week. Then you hire them from inside the staff screen. The OC/DC will level up in skills, but you don't control those. Think of it as them being their own man with aspirations to be a head coach. Thats why you will see some OC with defense skills.

It comes down to what type of DC you want and how you want to build your program. The level of coach and pipeline state are two things to start with. So study the skill tree and see which skills you want to pair with what you have. If its the same skills you have then you are doubling up.

You said the other thread you were struggling with recruiting so bringing in a coach that specializes in that is one option. Some of them will have the higher tier skill trees unlocked so those are handy. The Taction (blue) will make your players rating better. The Yellow one is one of my favorites with the offseason training boost on level 3.

Is it your belief that coordinator pipelines do something? I'm under the impression that coach pipelines (HC or coordinator) barely matter. They affect job offers and there are certain skill tree things relating to them. Other than that, I'm not sure what difference they make.

I play the game as HC. 4 consecutive national championships in coach mode. For assistants I focus on boosting the skills/attributes of positions on offense and defense.

In recruiting I fully scout and then sign players who have the skills I look for at each position. I spend no points on recruiting. When you start winning recruiting will be easier.

Skills/attributes for each position group. It's important to know what skills and attributes do for each position. For example for cornerbacks I scout for speed and man coverage. For safeties speed, zone coverage, tackle. Safeties also can be good linebackers.
