No Penalties in Offline Mode

I have yet to go on a power play after playing about 40 games (4 minutes periods) in offline mode. I have penalties set at the max 4, and have all of the CPU penalty sliders set to 100. Is there an option I'm missing or is this the way the game plays?

Nope, it's basically broke compared to years past.

I played just like you said for handful of games with everyone of the sliders maxed to 100 and penalties at 4.

Most success I have had with penalties and it's probably just luck was to set them all to 83. Why 83? That's what EA had as default interference in years past. Figured it was set there for a reason so I set them all too it. I've seen charging, cross checks, elbows, holds, and multiple delay of game penalties all on the CPU. Yet, still have games with nothing, but at 83 I get the best mix for what it is this year. Main penalties I get are holdings, trips, and high sticking.

I play 6 or 7 min periods and will see on a good day 4 penalties called combined in a game.

Thank you for the advice, I'll give that a try and see what happens.

If you're seeking a sim experience with stats close to an actual NHL game, such as amount of penalties, I think it's going to be tough with 4 minute periods. That short a time likely will lead to a more arcade type of game - if you're racing up and down the ice peppering shots on net and not setting up in the offensive zone cycling or grinding on the boards and in the corners, it's going to be tough to draw many penalties.

The game gives what you put into it. It's fine if you prefer up and down action in a compressed amount of time but the tradeoff is you're likely not going to get NHL numbers, and subsequently very many penalties. I've found 7 minutes to be the sweet spot for my style of play (a more sim approach) and consistently get 4-7 power plays per game. I have CPU penalty sliders at 100 except for delay of game at 60 and holding at 87. This is my typical stat line (captured before OT, I play as Vancouver).

Thank you. I'll try uping the period time to 7 minutes and make the other adjustments.

Sorry, could you clarify... are only putting "cpu penalties" at 100. What about "human penalties"? What about the overall penalty slider under the Rules tab, do you keep that at 3 or bump it up to 4?

Also, how are you getting such low (normal) hit numbers?

Checking Balance Slider from default 83 to 100, combined with Hitting Power at 12 gets me 37 to 45 hits a game combined on 7 min periods. Curious to see his set up as well.

He mentions play more sim, cycle, etc instead of up and down. I just played 5 straight games with all penalties at 100 and only had 3 calls combined in all 4 games and I cycled more than everyone at the Tour de France.

But if he is getting a typical 9 combined power plays per game, god bless, post that set up please we all would benefit from it.

IMO EA did something to the penalties unintentionally this year. Maybe it will get addressed in a patch?
