Re: Week 10 Discussion Thread

Zac Taylor should be fired for that 2pt decision.

I absolutely hate the pervasive nature of this "go for 2 on the road!" bull****. Going for 2 so frequently is absolute crap in general and I've seen way, way, way, way more detriment than positive. Happened last Sunday too.

Absolutely incomprehensible decision. I don't care if the play had missed call(s). The Bengals are 4-5, need this win, could effectively start the season fresh, up against a huge divisional rival, had monster performances from their two star players, did incredible things to get back into the game, and then they do.....that.

Unfathomable.

And they just as easily could have kicked the PAT, gone to OT and never seen the ball again and lost - see Buccaneers on Monday night.

When the offense is humming, I like my chances on getting 2 yards for the win.

I'd rather take OT than 50/50 "either it works or doesn't" nature of it. Same with a corner fade route teams do sometimes.

Give yourself as many outs as possible.

Re: Week 10 Discussion Thread

Analytics evaluated the Bengals' pre-snap decision as basically a "push": ~42% win probability if they attempted the PAT, ~40% win probability if they attempted the 2-point conversion.

ESPN sports analytics writer Seth Walder broke down the decision on Twitter and leaned towards kicking the PAT but repeatedly called it "close".

Personally, I've wrapped my head around it a bit now and I think I would have kicked the PAT. I would lean towards the two-point attempt had there been less time on the clock (38 seconds) and the Ravens had fewer timeouts (they had two). The conversion attempt would certainly still be an extremely high-leverage play in that case, but if you have a chance to take the lead in a way where the opposing offense cannot meaningfully respond to the lead change, I think you have to give yourself that chance.

I mean in general it seems as if they don't trust McPherson. I like going for it on 4th more than anyone, but there were instances where it just seemed fairer to let McPherson give you the three points instead of keeping their offense out there.

I'm always looking at those earlier drives and seeing what actually led them to where they are by the end of the game, and one of those drives in particular looked like that to me.

I actually don't mind the fake punt playcall. It was there, dude just didn't catch it. Flipped momentum though.

Re: Week 10 Discussion Thread

That makes up for the fake punt.
