ALL 5 Wide+Hurry Up Entire Game

Really looking to go extreme here…. But does anyone have any suggestions on an all 5 wide playbook? All the best 5 WR formations…

There was really good thread on this for 14 where the guy had like 10 formations (5 and then 5 that nearly mirrored the first 5). He would have 5 WR and his Oline in one set of 5 formations… in the other set of 5 he would have WR 6-10 and Oline 6-10. The goal was to run hurry up the whole game and rotate units to keep them fresh.

Not sure we can do that in this game without formation sub menus…. But be interested to hear any suggestions about best 5 wide formations to build custom playbook.

Just a few things.

You’d likely need a CPB for this. There are almost certainly enough formations, but you’ll have issues.
  1. It’ll be tough finding 5WR sets based on formation names, and there’s well over 100 sets just in SG alone.
  2. Sadly, just because a formation has “5WR” in the title doesn’t mean it’s 5WR (I’ve found 01 personnel 5WR formations.
  3. Also, a lot of “empty” formations aren’t 5WR. I’ve found 01 and even 11 empty sets.
  4. What’s worse for you (and me) is that not all of them are interchangeable while no huddling. I used to have 3x 5 wide sets which could all be switched between while no huddling. I’ve recently swapped out 1 of these sets for a new 5WR set, but I can’t switch between my 2 originals and my new 1.
So, you’ll have to 1st find the actual 5 WR sets, and then take them into a play now to see which ones can be no huddled and which can’t.

With no menu formation subs, you’ll have trouble using 10 different WRs and OLs, but you can formation sub them in game, but doing that many guys would be a PITA to do every game.

Instead, you could use auto subs and depth chart to handle this, you’d just have no control over when subs come in. If doing this the best suggestion would be to have your SLWR position having 3 different WRs than your normal WR position. The problem with this is that SLWR is only 3 deep while WR is 6 deep, and I’d bet most (all?) 5 wide sets use 2 WRs and 3 SLWRs. This means that when a SLWR needs to rest, it’ll go to the 4th guy on SLWR list which you can’t set and might be a HB or TE.

You can actually look here for the personnel used in each set: https://collegefootball.gg/playbooks/search/

Looks like there's six "true" 00 5WR sets in the game: 5WR, 5WR Flex Trey, 5WR Trey, 5WR Trio, 5WR Trips, and Wide 5WR. As stated earlier, without formation subs in CFB25, your idea of hockey subbing WRs and OL won't really be possible

Cool. I didn’t know there was a tool for that. I’ll definitely have to check it out.

But, I just wanted to say that if that list was supposed to be exhaustive, then there’s a 7th set as I know there’s a 2nd “5WR” set that is 00 personnel. Which is to say that when building a CPB there are 2 distinct “5WR” sets with different plays in them. At 1 time I had both “5WR” sets in my playbook.

I’m not sure how accurate that tool is as far as personnel is concerned. I see in your search it lists 5WR flex Trey as 00 personnel, but I’ve had it in my CPB for a while, and it’s 01, not 00 (despite having “5WR” in it’s title).

I just don't understand how every 5WR set and Empty set doesn't have a true 00 pers package. It's the same way way with 2x2 and 3x1 sets....they should have a 10 pers package.

I can definitely understand it. Lots of teams line their TE in the slot or even outside and plenty of teams have formations with their HB lined up in the slot as well. So I definitely think there should be 11 empty and 01 empties.

They should just have naming conventions so that you can tell the personnel from the formation title. Even something as simple as shotgun formations like “10 Spread” and “11 Spread Flex” and “10 Spread Offset” would be tremendously helpful. Those are the correct personnel groupings I added to the formations, but in game they’re simply “spread” “spread flex” and “spread offset” so you can’t tell that 1 of the 3 is 11 while the other 2 are 10.

EDIT: I reread what you wrote and see you’re talking about the packages we can switch to at the play calling screen. I agree we should have a 5 WR package for empty sets.

I just wish we had more options in those selectable packages. I'm a big west coast offense guys so I spend a ton of time in 21 pers. It would be nice is all the empties had that options to go with 21 pers from an empty/5 wide look. What's funny though is I actually think there may be more 21 pers options out of the empty looks than 5 WR looks I just wish we'd have those options on all the formations.

As I said, Im a WCO guy and Love a ton of the undercenter stuff and especially the Split Flex Close. The selectable packages on that formations gives you like five versions of 21 pers and I would absolutely love to have at least on version of 20 pers and get three WR out there with that look.
