Human Offense Mixing Up CPU Defense???

I used to spend a good amount of time trying to see what I could come up with on defense to play great against the CPU offense. Go to practice, lab with two controllers. Came to the conclusion that the CPU will not give you enough time to make all the adjustments. This led me to thinking like an offensive genius.

I like to hot route the receivers a lot anyway. So, my thinking is this: What if you hot route WR's, TE's, etc. to create a whole lot of crossing routes in the middle and have one player on a slant that comes out of the "mix". Or have a player come out of the "mix" on a zig.

Or create a ton of "stuff" on one side of the field like a flood play but have one route come out of that flood.

Just mainly thinking of creating confusing things for the CPU defense to deal with. I know that it is only a video game, but just wondering if anyone has tried this or something like it.

On defense: you probably don't need to make as many adjustments as you think you do. The stock coverages are generally plenty enough to slow down the CPU, especially match coverages.

On offense: sending a bunch of crossing routes over the middle of the field at three depths is more-or-less the DDP concept. The concept requires three receivers running a Drag, a Dig (square-in), and a Post. DDP simplifies passing reads for the quarterback by providing several viable options over the middle of the field.

You can tag a fourth eligible receiver with any number of different routes to create many different plays and give yourself lots of options depending on what the defense is throwing at you. Adding a fourth or fifth crosser is probably unnecessary, though; you'll want something which gives you options against Cover 1 and Cover 3. The more areas of the field you can attack at once, the more coverage calls you can stress, and in turn the more successful your passing attack will be.

Re: Human Offense Mixing Up CPU Defense???

Mesh is another one that accomplishes something similar.

Personally, I limit myself to one hot route. More than that starts to feel cheesy. If I need more than 1 hot route to make a play work, I check to a different play.

And totally agreed on defense, I have a few things I'll do in certain situations (show blitz, shift the line), but just mixing up coverages and knowing when to get out of a bad one (via straight audibles) is enough for me.

Many thanks for the replies. Yeah, I had mesh plays in mind when thinking of this. The other key points are surely helpful.
