Penalty Sliders

Question on how you think different penalty sliders affect gameplay.

I ask because some seem to work even if not perfectly. Holding for example. At default 50 you do occasionally see them. It’s very sensitive though. If you raise it you can see them called every other drive and immediately after the snap of the ball before holding could have even occurred and been witnessed. Roughing the passer is another. Rarely if ever see that at default 50. I tested it at 70 and my guys were getting flagged multiple times per game for simply getting close and breathing on the QB. Blocking in the back is another. At default 50 it’s almost never called. You raise that and get some very ticky tacky calls.

On the flip side, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a DPI called, and I’ve had that as high as 99, 90, 70, etc. Same with facemask. With the penalties you can toggle on/off, most of which you never see either, I had ineligible receiver downfield toggled off for example because I’ve never seen that. With it turned off, I had the CPU get flagged for the first time for exactly that on a screen play. Another example is roughing and running into the kicker. I’ve been flagged for that before if I’m not careful, but never the CPU against me. Figured I would test with it off. The CPU has never had a significant ST’s play against me. One of the first games I had roughing and running into the kicker toggled off, the CPU blocked a FG against me and had a KR TD against me in the same game. OPI is another. Have never seen that called so toggled it off to test. I immediately felt that it opened up some new receiver animations and had them playing more aggressively for passes.

Some penalties seem to work as intended, some are overly sensitive, some seem completely broken, and some seem to affect gameplay in other areas. It’s all over the shop I feel. I’m getting relatively good and competitive gameplay with my own personal slider set, just curious what other people are seeing and if they have any theories with the penalty sliders and what they might affect.

Re: Penalty Sliders

Yea I’m also very curious just to hear other opinions and test results with different penalty values. I’ve started to feel like with things such as DPI it has an effect towards aggressiveness, I’ve had it set to lower values and seen better animations play out with DBs and WRs where the opposite as I go high it seems to make DBs play very passive towards interactions with WRs. With things like holding, false start, offsides you can notice how DEs will get better jumps with false start lower but you will see significantly less calls. Again though I would like to see what others think and have tested. Like I said try going lower on some and see how it affects how animations play and players behave. As far as a solution I really can’t find a good spot for DPI. Most of the others feel fine it just seems like with DPI maybe leaving it alone is best. I’ve also thought maybe putting it one tick in franchise after import sliders would maybe just activate it meaning putting it at either 51 or 49 after importing the slider set from the main menu. Because being that the physics slider is something we can only set in the main menu really makes me question the best way to adjust sliders in franchise. I’ve thought maybe just not adjust anything other then physics, fatigue, inj and speed thres in main menu importing and then setting the sliders would be the better route curious to hear opinions on this as well

Re: Penalty Sliders

I've given up on trying to get some of the penalties to work. I just try to get a decent amount within the game. False start, offsides, holding, block in the back are pretty much what I see. I don't see any facemask or roughing the passer and may see a defensive PI once or twice a season and roughing the kicker a couple times a season as well. I turn off illegal contact because the computer cannot be called for it so its only called if you accidentally run into someone.

I'm just glad I can get a decent amount and don't have like 11 a season like the last few years.

Wait, what??? When I was adjusting penalty sliders, the 2 most commonly called penalties were holding and roughing the passer, I believe I had started out at 70-75 (IIRC) and anytime one of my defenders breathed on the QB I was getting flagged.

I ended up dropping that slider real quick to I believe 55...lol

Re: Penalty Sliders

One Roughing the Passer call normally results in a Score

I should have worded that better. I have gotten it to where I see them but I couldn't find a sweet spot of enough but not too many so I just put it back on 50. I was just mentioning the ones I personally use to get penalties in the game.

Re: Penalty Sliders

I get DPI called sometimes 3x a game. I believe I have set to 65 or 75. It’s usually on deep throws and getting aggressive with user catch, while using Placement and Accuracy passing ,sometimes it’s just called on defenders getting in my way on slant routes. Face mask penalties rare. I’ve had one offensive PI called against me which blew me away as have never seen it.

Re: Penalty Sliders

I think difficulty should be mentioned when making ur post about how different values are effecting gameplay. Just because I’ve done a few franchise were it’s just penalties I’m adjusting and on All Madden I don’t think I’ve really ever seen more then 2 DPIs called in a whole season. Other penalties are different but for DPI it’s rare but you do see the slider effect DBs gameplay with it’s set high or low
