Playing players out of position

I'm moving to a 3-3-5 tite from a 4-2-5 defense, and made this decision after the offseason. As a result I've got to move a bunch of players around in my depth chart.

If a player doesn't have the Team Player badge... what is the impact of playing them out of position (talking DTs at DEs, a DE at OLB, etc).

If they are recruits and not NIL players, you can change their position whenever you want in season.

I’ve read from a lot of people that doing so will tank their ratings and the change will be unrecoverable.

This has always been super confusing to me, and I can't tell if it's because EA's treatment is inconsistent, or its a double-whammy.

Take a Center versus an Left Tackle, for example. You player might have an overall rating at Center of 82, and on the Left Tackle depth chart, it's 85.

Ok, so we know he actually rates higher as an LT than as a Center. But does the penalty for playing out of position apply the the 85 overall rating at left tackle, AFTER the OVR increase?

Likewise, you have Kickers and Punters. My 75 overall kicker has 89 KPW and my 63 overall punter has 75 KPW. The kicker shows as a 75 overall in both the kicker and punter depth charts, and my punter shows as a 63 overall in both depth charts. There is no increase or decrease based on the specific depth chart like there is in the Center/Left Tackle example above.

But if you put the 89 KPW kicker at punter, he kicks is SHORTER than the 75 KPW punter, even though his KPW is 14 points higher. This would seem be the Team Player issue going into effect - playing the kicker out of position at punter.

So in summary, take the interchangeable positions like DE/DT, OLB/DE, CB/FS/SS, WR/TE, OT/OG/C - all those players have different overall ratings that actually show up in the depth chart for different positions. Your 88 overall CB may show as an 84 overall in the SS depth chart. Your 91 overall DE shows as an 87 in the OLB depth chart. Etc.

Does the penalty for playing out of position kick in under the hood, separate from that visible depth chart adjustment or not?
