CPU pass defense is insanely good

I play on All-American. No matter what play I run, switch it up all the time, no tunnel vision on 1 WR, scan the field, if I get an open guy, the closest CPU player always transforms into superman and either jumps 20 feet to knock it down, or suddenly gets a 200 acceleration rating, and/or jumps in front and picks it. My average completion percentage is 43%. Will adjusting CPU pass coverage and defense reaction time sliders help?

What pass style are you using?

I'm having this same issue after the last patch. I play on Classic Passing. Should I be using Revamped?

Re: CPU pass defense is insanely good

I've used classic passing nearly the entire time. Not sure what patch did it, but pass blocking is so bad and pass coverage is insanely good. I've recently lowered pass coverage to 5 for the CPU. Lowered for user too cause it's easy to get coverage sacks. I lowered it to 20 and it didn't help. At 5 it definitely helps without feeling like your DBs are useless. But still sorta testing it out.

Also pass blocking at 100. On All-american it's been so much better. Oregon still sacked me 6 times as Utah State so pass blocking at 100 doesn't mean everyone gets pancaked (even though I think it should if sliders worked how they should).

I remember they had a patch note that said pass blocking slider is more sensitive. Np idea what that means. But it feels like that's when I started having severe pass blocking issues (on both sides).

Re: CPU pass defense is insanely good

One of the things that makes it frustrating (for me, anyway), is that it has never seemed to matter in EA football games whether the defender - LB/DB/whatever - is actually looking at the ball or not before they make a play. It's really irritating when a DB with his head turned completely away from the ball can still somehow sense the ball right nearby and blindly reach out and make a play on it, even though there's no way they could have seen the ball being thrown or coming their way when they're in a full-on bail toward a receiver with their back completely to the ball.

Perhaps this is just a programming/graphical shortcoming, but IRL it obviously matters whether the defender is fully turned and running toward a receiver vs back-pedaling with his eyes on the QB/into the backfield. I hate when I throw a ball (intentionally) right by a defender's head to a receiver because the defender has his back to me, and yet they are still able to swat it away without ever looking back for the ball, or even worse, miraculously turn and make a pick at the most perfect possible moment despite having no way of knowing the ball was even coming their way.

Anyway, those two things contribute (in my experience) to the passing game resulting in more picks than should be the case. Generally, I think there are too many picks and too few vanilla incompletions.

To answer your question, yes, modifying the coverage and reaction sliders will help.

If you were able to upload any clips of you passing the ball, the community may be able to potentially help spot any errors that you may be making without realizing it. I'd be happy to help and I'm sure others would as well.

Re: CPU pass defense is insanely good

For the most, knowing when/how to layer a pass does help. I always have to put into consideration when to throw a bullet pass or a touch pass and reading your intended passing lane. When the passing lane is clear and the target has a step, for the most part you can throw a bullet pass. If the lane isn't clear and/or doesn't have separation, then thowing a touch pass is the best case.

My issue Is with the superhero plays. I don't mind seeing impact players and/or players with abilities making special plays. But far too often, I see AI defenders making plays that doesn't seem realistic. Like when they aren't even looking at the ball or do the super jump. Ain't going lie, I'm throwing 20+ INTs a season smh. But, the ironic part is that I can complete 70% of passes.

But, I do like Zone defense. CPU does a good job of passing off receivers and picking up new WRs. So many times, I think I'm going to have a wide open pass then at the last second before I pass, the AI picks up the upcoming target
