Should I download the 9/19 patch?

This patch has some potentially good changes, but also some bad ones from what I’ve read.
TLDR: Should I download the 9/19 patch?

A fair amount doesn’t apply to or doesn’t interest me (i.e. audibles, pvp changes, new uniforms). Here’s the stuff that would be applicable:
  • The small (bugged) kick meters seems like a real issue and seems like the main reason to avoid the patch.
  • Wear and tear toned down. I liked the old wear and tear. Is it too low now?
  • Composure changes. Are hot and cold players noticeably different now? For the better or worse?
  • Zone changes. Are these for the better or worse? Seems like a lot of people think zone defenders play worse post-patch.
  • Hard and soft selling: Is this an improvement? Sounds like it’s mainly to make it tougher to sell bad pitches, but I don’t do that anyway. And it sounds like having stronger hard spells for good pitches would make too easy recruiting even easier now
  • Can get offers following an auto extension is great, but in my dynasty I’m at my final destination.

Can you help me by telling me how to download a patch? Doesnt it happen automatically when you fire up the game and you're logged into the EA server? Im not even sure I have the first patch as i haven't seen it try to download anything.

On Xbox (and I’m sure PS too) there’s an option to automatically download patches or not. I turned my auto off so when I’m online and try to play an unpatched CFB25 it’ll give me a pop up saying “you need to update if you wanna play.” If you’re offline, then you can play the unpatched game. So if you only play offline dynasties (like me) then you can continue playing without the patch.

EDIT: So for you, if you play while online then you have the latest patch cuz you wouldn’t be able to fire the game up while online if you didn’t have it.

A lot of that is under the hood and hard to pin down. Kick meter is definitely messed up. Zone defense might be worse but it could also be composure change.

I just beat #4 in the nation 52-7. I also barely beat a team with a poor record 51-50. I think the composure loss might be for real. Seems like bad things snowball on defense. Same with QB. If he is throwing into coverage while ignoring a wide open receiver on the same play I replace him because I suspect composure loss. Lost another game 21-20. Pretty normal.

I can't advise you what to do. I'm still playing and enjoying the game.

Re: Should I download the 9/19 patch?

The kick meter thing really isn't a big deal imo. If it really bothers you, it's only glitched in standard cam. Just press up or down on the D-Pad when you're kicking a field goal, and voila; it's bigger again.

Zone defense doesn't feel worse to me, but I use it pretty sparingly; I'm a match guy. And the added Match coverages (along with a few new blitzes) are great for me.

And I think you're sleeping on Audibles. It's nice for offense, but where it really shines is on defense, where I can now have better options when the other team goes no huddle.

I didn’t know the meter is only bugged in standard cam. I run the ball with wide cam, pass with All22 cam and I kick with All22 cam. So you’re saying that with me kicking in A22, I won’t see a bugged kick meter?

I play mostly match coverage as well.

I use a CPB for both offense and defense. If I understand the audible changes, then they won’t affect me and my CPB at all, correct? Am I right in assuming that as a defensive CPB user, I won’t get anything out of the audible changes?

Re: Should I download the 9/19 patch?

In coach mode the biggest difference I noticed regarding zone defense following the patch was if a CPU QB scrambles the defensive backs don't react until the QB is on his way to a significant run. Not sure if it impacts every zone but definitely cover 3 match.
