After taking 2024 off since PC was old gen again, I'm happy to have taken the plunge with 2k 2025 Next Gen for PC. This year's game might be the best ever.

My usual caveats - I do not use the shot stick. I'm a button shooter using Real Player %. Your style may require adjustments. I play MyLeague with a completely custom team (Seattle Skyhawks - see the images above).

I recommend making certain roster attribute, tendency, and badge changes as some issues can only be addressed through roster updates. More on that later as I'm still playing with roster edits.

Remember that everyone's playstyle, preferences, and skill is different so your experience may vary.

Roster Edits for Attributes, Tendencies, and Badges

There are aspects of gameplay that can only be adjusted by making key roster edits. I recommend these changes.

Shared Roster –

I have saved a baseline NBA Modern Era roster with no injuries for PC. The edits to attributes, tendencies, and badges described below have been made. Search for my username (resteele02) or savename (RES2 Baseline Roster).

Edit a Roster. Enter Quick Edit mode and switch to the All Player screen. Select All (A button) to make bulk adjustments.

Here is an example of the adjustments you can make quickly –
Manually reduce the individual top players until the max scores are 90. Then select the entire column (Press A to cycle through individual cell, row, and column options until you have the entire column selected) and flick the right stick down 35 (so the max score is now 55 since you started with a max score of 90) then flick the right stick up 5. All the scores that were just at 0 are now at 5 and the max up from 45 to 60. You will now have a range from 5 to 60 for all players.

Here is another example –
Select an entire row and flick the right stick up 20 times to raise the scores +20. Flick up 1 time so the minimum score is 46 (+20 goes from 25 to 45, then +1 to 46 for this example), then down 1 so the minimum score is 45. This up 1 and down 1 move will ensure the max score for the highest rated players is 99 (not 100).

In the suggestions below -10, +10 means while on the All Players screen, Press A to edit all players, flick the right stick down 10 times, then up 10 times.

If any column adjustment has max scores of 100, I flick down once to set the max to 99. I'll also check the top ratings for any tendency to see if the top-rated players look right and adjust a few top players manually as needed.

Note: with the increases to fouls from the roster edits, you should adjust the Fouls slider on the Simulation setting (Settings, General) down to 0 otherwise fouls and free throws may be too high in simulated games. I find it's worth the risk to get in-game fouls to be more realistic.

Badges -

I have adjusted badges because I find overuse can be unrealistic. I mostly rely on roster Attributes and Tendencies for good gameplay. I use the global edit feature to edit badges. In your roster, use the quick edit feature, go to the All Players screen. Flick the right stick down twice for each badge column to eliminate the bronze and silver badges. Legendary becomes Silver, Gold becomes Bronze, and the original Silver and Bronze badges are eliminated. I leave the Blue personality badges unchanged.

Add Pick Dodger and Off Ball Pest to all players.
Flick the Right Stick down once to remove the bronze badge from anyone who has it already, then up once so all players have these at Bronze level. This down once then up once action will ensure anyone who already had the badge at a level above bronze still has the badge at the same level they started with.

Reminder - Everyone's playstyle and skill is different. Use these suggestions as a starting point and adjust for your style and the outcomes you are looking for. I hope you enjoy the game.

Here is my game vs. New Orleans using the v1 sliders.

Seattle won this back and forth game by pulling away in the 4th period. I made a point of driving more in the 2nd half and got to the line a lot. Zion was in foul trouble much of the game so he was limited. McCullum torched me for 40 but we contained the rest of the team enough to squeak out the win on free throws at the end when they had to resort to fouling.

Rotations were good with McCullum, Murray, and Ingram all having more than 35 minutes, and Zion with only about 25 due to foul trouble.

As mentioned in the first post, roster edits are still a WIP but here are the highlights.

Attributes -
Increase Interior D (ID) + 10 and Perimeter D (PD) +20 as soooo many non-starters are way too low.

Increase Help D IQ +10

Tendencies -
Reduce the top end and increase the bottom end of Touch to get better distribution. I have the range on Touch from 75 to 35.

Increase Pass To Open Man +20

I like to increase midrange +20 to get more midrange shots. I'm old so grew up watching Jordan in college.

I deduce the ISO tendencies by 5 or 10 to get less ISO play.

I also still like to increase take charges, fouls, and hard fouls +10 to make getting to the line easier. The engine in 2025 is much better about fouls, but still not where I want it without some help.

Increase Contest Shots +10 for overall better action on contests and more fouls.

Here is a game against Utah. Markkanen scored 30 with 11 boards and played 44 minutes (that's too high). But Seattle held on to win with a good run in the 4th including several big 3 pointers (increasing our 3PT% to 50% for the game) to secure the victory on the road.

Increased Defensive Awareness to 65 (was 35). First post is updated.

Needed to break old habits from the PC old gen days. I used to keep Def Awareness very low to help get fouls to work. In Next Gen this low Def Awareness is not needed. The defense benefits from higher Def Awareness, though issues on rotations and help D still exist.

I may set Def Awareness even higher.
