Recommendations on a "Deep" How to Call Defense Article

Hi all,

Trying to level up my game a little. I mostly play versus the computer, but have an online league I'm in as well. I get basic concepts like Tampa 2 is good for underneath routes, Cover 2 is safety help, Cover 3 is better at covering the sidelines. I get that match is like a hybrid man/zone coverage.

I make a lot of pre coverage audibles like covering under/over or inside/outside when I think that's what is going to get attacked. I'll pass commit when it makes sense that it's an obvious pass situation.

What I want to better understand is why I might want to call certain coverage schemes in certain situations. Like when is it better to use Match versus a Cloud coverage, or why I might want Cover 9 over something else etc. Maybe an article, or a good YT video that really goes into the strengths/weaknesses of different coverage shells.

Thanks for any guidance.

There are a couple threads like this one that are useful: https://forums.operationsports.com/f...-not-rant.html

Also, go look at Hooe and ggsimonds post history. Some great and deep posts by them that should answer a lot of your questions.

My defense has improved drastically with the knowledge I gained from them and those threads.

Any time I click to view someone's post history it tells me I don't have permission to view that. As I understood that was part of the search function which is disabled on OS.

Hooe definitely knows his stuff.

Old schoolers like NYKia and LBzrule are also OS must reads.

You’ll find great videos on match coverage on YouTube by Geronimo22, who coached in the NFL, and he posts here, but maybe by another name, IDK.

I learn the most from YT vids that take a coverage family in particular and break down the rule sets vs. various offensive formations.
