Coin Flip: A 1984-85 "What If" Roster (2k25 PS5)
Happy NBA 2K Week, folks -
Since it looks like the Eras mode has pretty minimal new content this year, I'm going to make my own. Later in the year, I'm going to do a 1995-96 roster and replay the entire existence of the Grizzlies, but first:
I've always been interested in an alternate history approach to the 1984 NBA draft. In real life, the Houston Rockets won a coin flip with the Portland Trail Blazers for the first pick in that draft and the right to take Hakeem Olajuwon. As everyone knows, the Blazers then took Sam Bowie, the Bulls took Michael Jordan, and the next 15 years of the NBA was kind of locked in.
Now, a lot of folks have tried to figure out how things would have been different if the Blazers had taken MJ, or if the Rockets had traded Ralph Sampson to the Blazers for Clyde Drexler and MJ, but I'm most interested in the coin flip. What if the Blazers had won it?
Portland takes Olajuwon, Houston takes Jordan. Chicago takes Sam Perkins, and trades him to Seattle for Jack Sikma. Dallas, who is real life takes Perkins, probably takes Charles Barkley, leaving Philadelphia to take Otis Thorpe. A ton of other picks are affected, a bunch of trades never happen, and opening day 1984-85 looks totally different.
So: this year, I'm going to make that alternate reality 1984-85 roster. I'll use this thread to post progress updates as I move along, if there's any interest.
