I’ve Come to the Conclusion This Game Just Doesn’t Really Work

At least on Heisman, and despite all manner of different slider configurations. I usually dismiss people who say there is scripting or pre-determined outcomes etc. but it’s hard to deny with this game.

Opening drive of my game, I’m playing good defense but literally makes no difference because the CPU seems to have already determined it’s going to score.

1. I call Cover 3 Hard Flats specifically to counter the type of play I think the CPU is likely to run. The CPU calls the exact type of play I predicted but my DB who is supposedly playing the flat jumps inside and takes several steps away from the flat before moving out.

2. I force a third down and the first penalty of the game is called. Neutral zone infraction on me. Literally nothing I can do about that. The CPU randomly generates its penalty and lo and behold it just so happens to be on a third and inches on my 5 yard line. Automatic first down.

3. The CPU calls a read option. My DE gets off his block very quickly and is free as the QB tries to pass him. I switch on and spam the crap out of A, only to get no tackle animation and the QB brushes my DE aside and walks in.

Not to mention, another of my DEs got absolutely manhandled by a Vertical Threat TE with like 56 Run Block earlier in the drive.

Zone Coverages don’t work like they’re supposed to, DBs in man just watch as receivers catch balls right in front of them, CPU QBs go 15/15 for 300 and 3 TDs on the regular. And even when you do the right thing to counter, it doesn’t matter because the CPU screw’s you anyway.

This game looks beautiful and the animations trick you into thinking the gameplay is good but it’s really not.

Here’s hoping All American is better!

I'd suggest stop getting frustrated with what you see as flaws with tge coding and understand these are college kids that make mistakes in reads and techniques all the time. And that the next play is up and and stop smarting about the last one.

It's amazing to me how it seems like most of you guys never played sports growing up and understanding that you're going to make mistakes, have bad outcomes, get screwed by the refs and that you have to push it aside to get to the next play.

In short this is a serious weakness that your opponent can take advantage of.

Re: I’ve Come to the Conclusion This Game Just Doesn’t Really Work

I feel ya man. I don't want to turn this into "another" crazy rant. I will do my best to approach it, so it doesn't reach that level. I totally agree with what you said.

These are my issues:
***EA can tune the game to where the CPU QB can find every hole in the zone defense I called, even if I audible.
***I have seen my defenders stand still while the CPU receivers drag, cross, and go for deep balls and score at will. However, the the CPU defenders are spot on most of the time, and I have to find that one receiver in which I have to place the ball perfectly. The only thing that has helped me in my second season dynasty is a 98 speed dual threat QB. Yeah, he's a freshman too.
***I can have my defense have the CPU offense in 4th and 13 (this is very rare). Then, a roughing the punter penalty called.
***The one that absolutely drives me insane is the CPU RB weighs like 195, and he bowls over my DE and two of my LB's. He's like pinball bouncing off these guys. No stiff arm, no juke, no spin, just straight running.

Outside of all that, I have made a few tweaks to Armor & Sword's Varsity sliders. These have helped a bit.

Those things have to feel organic though. If your inputs have close to no impact on the outcome, what’s the point in even playing the game?

Re: I’ve Come to the Conclusion This Game Just Doesn’t Really Work

There is SO MUCH that needs to be fixed -- Dynasty's myriad problems, Teambuilder, etc. etc. etc. etc. -- that I almost think they need to tear this down and start all over again.

This reminds me of what happened with the NBA Live franchise. Remember that the College Football franchise got started a year late, probably because they knew the game was so messed up. But they couldn't hold back any longer without making money, so we got this clusterflub. Don't be surprised if we don't get significant patches, and if we don't get a College Football 26, either. Just check out NBA Live's history for EA's blueprint. From Wikipedia:

"After the release of NBA Live 10, EA attempted to retool the series under a new name with NBA Elite 11. However, the game was met with bad publicity and development problems before release and was cancelled [...] It was eventually announced that the series' next installment would be released in Fall 2012 and would return to the NBA Live name as NBA Live 13, but it would later be announced, on September 27, 2012, that they would cancel the release. It wasn't until the fall of 2013, that the next game, NBA Live 14, would be released [...]." The game died after NBA Live 19.

This proved to me that EA was incapable of fixing its problems, especially in the face of competition (NBA 2K). I don't have any faith they'll fix the issues with the College Football franchise, either. Prove me wrong, EA Sports!

I'll say this in defense of EA. Football is the most difficult sport to program because 22 players on the field each with his own AI.

The problem is they won't fix the easy stuff. In coach mode the user QB doesn't react to the pass rush. That's a simple fix. Give the user QB the same AI as a CPU QB. It's coach mode. The user QB is a CPU QB.

That's a 10 minute fix for a competent programmer and it was correct in NCAA 14. I get it that gameplay for football is a heavy lift but they aren't fixing the easy stuff. Maybe it will get patched into the game.
