DEFEAT to COMPLETE | Washington Huskies CFB 25 DYNASTY
2024 WASHINGTON HUSKIES SEASON PREVIEW
The Washington Huskies are coming off a loss in the College Football Playoff National Championship. Despite the loss, the Huskies won the PAC-12 title in its final year. This year, they will be competing in the Big 10, alongside National Championship opponents and winners, Michigan.
A lot has changed since then. Gone is Head Coach Kalen DeBoer (Alabama), quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (NFL), running back Dillon Johnson (NFL), their three most productive receivers in Rome Odunze (NFL), Ja'Lynn Polk (NFL), and Jalen McMillan (NFL), as well as key defensive players like Edefuan Ulofoshio (NFL), Jabbar Muhammed (Oregon), and Mishael Powell (Miami).
Washington will have a new man at the helm in 2024. 48 year old Jedd Fisch takes over for Kalen Deboer, who departed the team in January to fill the role of retiring Nick Saban at Alabama. Fisch was previously the head coach of Arizona, who went from finishing 1-11 in his first season with the team, to 10-3 with a bowl win in his third and final season.
"I'm excited to take over here at Washington. Washington is at the top of the college football pyramid, and that is where I intend to keep them. During my time here, we will be pushing for more success than we have seen in years past."
OFFENSIVE PREVIEW
Washington's offense in 2024 will be led by Senior transfer Will Rogers, who made the move from Mississippi State in November. The QB room also contains Freshman Demond Williams Jr. - who followed Jedd Fisch from Arizona, as well as commit Matthew Leo-Ioane. The Huskies enrolled three new quarterbacks to replace the departing Michael Penix Jr. (Drafted), Dylan Morris (JMU), and Demaricus Davis (UCLA).
Coach Fisch will utilise his famous Spread Offense in 2024. Last year at Arizona, Fisch led the team to an outstanding 34.6 points per game, ranking top 20 in scoring offense, passing offense, and total offense. Familiar with the playbook, Junior Jonah Coleman figures to be the feature back on offense, who also transferred in from Arizona. Seniors Daniyel Ngata and Cameron Davis will also be fighting for their share of carries, as well as another Arizona commit, Adam Mohammed.
Washington's offensive line will consist of faces new and old. Two Freshmen, Soane Faasolo and Khalee Taai will start on the left after being redshirted last season. Sophomore Landen Hatchett will start at centre, while Junior Gaard Memmelaar will start at Right Guard. Transfering in from SDSU, Sophomore Drew Azzopardi will round out the frontline at Right Tackle.
Washington does return Blocking Tight End, Quentin Moore for his 5th and final year. After transferring in from California, Senior Jeremiah Hunter will become the Huskies number one option at wide receiver, following the departures of Odunze, Polk and McMillan. Returning, Sophomore Denzel Boston and 5th Year Giles Jackson will also be key to the receiving core. Red-Shirted in 2023, Freshman Rashid Williams is additionally looking to make his mark on offense this season.
DEFENSIVE PREVIEW
Washington returns one of the Big 10's best strong safeties for his 5th year in Kamren Fabiculanan. Pairing up with him at free safety is Junior Markell Esteen.
Following Fisch's hiring of Steve Belichick, Washington will run a base 3-4 defense, with 3 down linemen and 4 linebackers on the field. The Huskies starting linemen will consist of Sophomore Toby Erickson, Senior Jacob Bandes, and Junior tranfer Russell Davis II from Arizona. Supporting the down linemen will be 5th Year Drew Fowler, Star Senior Carson Bruener, Senior Bryun Parham, and Freshman Deven Bryant. Like Bryant, multiple freshmen will be starting for the Huskies this season after being red-shirted in 2023. This is due to the major loss of graduates and transfers.
Replacing the transfers of Jabbar Muhammed and Asa Turner at cornerback will be Arizona Junior Ephesians Pryscock. Lining up on the other side of the field will be Elijah Jackson, who will return for his 4th year as a Junior. Freshmen Jordan Shaw and Curley Reed III make up depth at defensive back.
BIG 10 OUTLOOK
Following the fall of the PAC-12, the Huskies have relocated to the Big 10 for 2024. The Big 10 now consists of 16 different teams, and is now one of the biggest powerhouse conferences in college football. As previously mentioned, the conference contains National Championship Winners, Michigan, as well as #2 Ohio State, #4 Oregon (who also relocated to the Big 10 with USC and UCLA), #7 Penn State, and #25 USC. Washington start the season Unranked after losing a lot of their star players to the Draft and transfer portal, however, under the coaching of Jedd Fisch, the Huskies will be looking to go from Defeat to Complete.
