No True Coach Mode in NCAA 25

From reading several posts, I have concluded that NCAA 25 does not contain a true Coach Mode play option. By that, I mean that, even though there is a QB Autothrow option (called Coach Mode) in the game, even when selected, the QB will not run when no receivers are open. And, it is still necessary for players to execute kicks in so-called Coach Mode.

I am truly disappointed. I have looked forward to NCAA 25 for a long time. It is now here, but no true Coach Mode play option.

OK. Maybe EA will address the issue in some future release - or, maybe not.

Until there is a true and complete Coach Mode option, I will not invest in either the game or the XBOX X/S equipment I would need to buy to even play the game.

I have no more to say.

Adios,

Art

I feel your sentiments. The coach mode player is the bastard cousin at the family reunion. No sports title offers a true coach mode, aside from The Show's MoM mode (I could say more here but I will save that).

However! As a seasoned gamer, this game despite its lack of this mode it is a marvel. It would be easy to create a house rule of having the alarm in your head when passing to take over the QB, or something like that. The wait was excruciating and the expectation was met and exceeded for me. You'll fall in love if you give yourself a chance.

Peace!

The only thing I have to say about this post is...

I'm glad to see your name. I wondered if you were still around.

Re: No True Coach Mode in NCAA 25

Thanks for both replies. Since I am not a seasoned gamer, I don't find enjoyment in playing a football simulation as most any gamer would. My interest is only in being able to enjoy playing a football simularion by choosing plays and allowing the software to execute the plays.

Also, as I mentioned in my post, I am also forced to purchase a new game system just to play the game. Since I play no other games on computers of any kind, spending several hundred dollars and not being able to do what I enjoy does not make sense to me.

Yes, I am still around and will turn 83 in November. In fact, since 2019, we have lived in Raleigh, NC. Our daughter and only grandchild (now 20 years old and a Junior at NC State) live here, so we are delighted to finish our earthly tour with family nearby. We will celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary on November 13 of this year.

I'll be content with Madden 24 for both PC and XBOX One to scratch my football itch until the '24 College/Pro seasons actually begin.

And, I will watch developments with EA NCAA 25 to see if they decide to implement a true Coach Mode option (at lease to add the QB scramble to CM). Or, if EA issues a PC or backwards XBOX compatible version

Glad you both are enjoying the new game. Best to both of you.

I get your situation Art. My definition of seasoned is that I've played forever, not that I am any good or anything, like my golf game.

If I had my choice, I too would play a complete coach-mode. I think that the results should come down to ratings and probability, not what my stubby fingers can do.

I stumbled upon a discussion on text-based football games and a couple looked so interesting but I can't find that for the life of me. I wish the developers of OOTP would make a football game.

My final comment, which doesn't help your situation, is that EA/Sony/2k should invest just a little resource into a true coach/sim-mode and sacrifice a smidgeon of their ultimate team/micro transaction program, it would make all gamers happy.

Re: No True Coach Mode in NCAA 25

The really odd thing about this Coach Mode QB issue is that, when playing against the CPU in any mode, the CPU QB executes properly without human interference. Also, if watching a CPU vs CPU game, I presume that the QB will scramble, throw away, etc. for each team.

Furthermore, CPU kickers execute without human interference.

If I am correct, then I do not understand what keeps EA from adding CPU controlled QBs and Kickers to the game when setting up Coach Mode play. Seems like a simple switch-type option to me.

Perhaps someone from EA would like to comment and enlighten us.

Re: No True Coach Mode in NCAA 25

Howdy Art!! I know it's not the most ideal solution but I've had good success player locking on the HB which leaves the QB completely cpu-controlled. Now admittedly that will cause you to modify your play calling because some routes like flares out of the backfield will require you to run the route for the HB....which I refuse to do lol. The only thing I have to concede on is kicking.

Re: No True Coach Mode in NCAA 25

Hello NoleFan and thanks for your suggestion. I had thought about locking onto another player. I am glad to know that doing so restores full CPU control to the QB. I wonder if player locking on to the Center would be a better choice - or perhaps on to either a Guard or Tackle.

In any event, my opinion of EA's silly unwillingness to address this issue has not changed. All EA needs to do is to re-define the Coach Mode concept such that the CPU controls all player movements, then give access to the playbook for the Human-Managed team to allow the Human Coach to select the play.

At least it seems a simple alteration to me. Again, I invite someone from EA to comment upon this concept and explain why it cannot be implemented.

Unfortunately for me, as much as I would like to enjoy NCAA 25, I know that, without a true Coach Mode option, I would not play the game. So, I will not making the investment in an XBOX X and the game unless EA makes true Coach Mode an option.

I will continue to monitor the OS site to see if something nice happens.
