Article in NYT about Madden "fall"

Nothing new for people here who follow closely the franchise, the article stays generic, talks about a fall since exclusive rights were signed, doesn't mention any specific issue in games (like less ressources allowed to "develop" the franchise mode for example). The article is more for people "outside" the sports gaming community, but something tells me that an article in New York Times has a better chance to reach investors than our threads complaining about poor AI logic in 4-minutes offenses when game is tied

Only thing this tells me is that EA is about to get an extension on their exclusive rights deal... happens every time.

Re: Article in NYT about Madden "fall"

Madden has vastly improved over the years. It has never "fell" in my view.

However, it is not advancing as quickly as other sports games in many areas, such as custom camera angles, variable weather, and so on, and so I understand why people complain.

As someone who hasn't ever bought Madden, the game comes across as middle of the road. It never had really any high moments or low moments since acquiring the exclusive deal. It's just there.

Madden has improved in recent years, but Madden also did have quite the fall. How soon we've forgotten that #FixMaddenFranchise was the #1 trending topic on Twitter after the release of Madden 21?

Most of us have dropped our expectations and resigned ourselves to a product that will never impress us again, so not seeing the "fall" of Madden is because we often need to look in the other direction in order to keep playing.

The biggest hurdle Madden seems to always deal with and where we see such a huge decline is when they are releasing a new title in a year for the next gen console. You see a lot of features just disappear because they do not have time for them and such.

#FixFranchise was less about one year though, and more about the build-up of frustration since the "Connected Careers" era kicked off in Madden 13.

And IIRC, the final drop in the bucket that led to #FixFranchise taking off, beyond the lack of pretty much any updates to the mode for M21, was the intended relabeling the mode as "Classic Franchise", when there was nothing classic about it and such a label made it seem like EA was no longer interested in the mode's development.
