And why would they not want to show gameplay? They extended release by a full year.

More companies don't show gameplay before a release than do at this point. Companies know that many will buy the game and then stream it. They depend on that to happen so those that need extended gameplay can get it before they want it.

There isn't a scheme behind it. It's the state of the business. And honestly the norm at this point. Across multiple genres this is true. Not just the sports genre.
