MLB The Show PRE-Show 20 games

Hey guys I was looking into buying some older used Show games.

I'm looking for opinions and suggestions. I want to know which games that came out BEFORE Show 20 for the PS4 would you guys say are worth getting?

And why do you like that one(s)??

thanks for any help

17 was the last version to have season mode if that matters.

19 is my favorite, I'm still playing to this day. Even like it more so than any between 20-24, because I can use my bullpen the way I want. No pesky 3 minimum batters faced. The down side for me tho is service time wasn't yet editable. It was also before the 93 man roster expansion but that doesn't bother me even a little. Now when/if Sony expands to say 100 or 125 man rosters, I'll have to rethink leaving 19 behind for good.

20 is actually one of the very best in a long time, IMO, and I would recommend it highly over the ones in the surrounding years. Its the first title in the entire series where I was actually able to take walks vs the CPU. I'm a single player, offline franchise exclusive guy though, and play on Veteran+ difficulty, so your experiences may be different.

Re: MLB The Show PRE-Show 20 games

I second the recommendations made so far:

MLB 17: This was the last MLBTS game with a traditional Season Mode. It was also the last year with the "traditional" menus and UI before the "tiles" look was introduced for MLB 18-20. For what it's worth, this is also the only game in the series with Harold Reynolds as a color commentator.

MLB 19: This was the last MLBTS game (and real-life season, for that matter) without the Three Batter Minimum. IIRC, this was also the last season/iteration where active rosters were still limited to 25 players. Presentation-wise, this was also the last season with three distinct presentation packages: MLB Network, one package that mimicked the NBC package from that season, and one that mimicked the FOX package from that season. While not quite as refined as MLB 20, 19's not far off with regards to things like gameplay and throwback uniform selection, too.

Honestly, though, considering physical copies for older MLBTS games can be had for no more than a few bucks, you really can't go wrong with taking a chance on any of them.

I skipped 19 and didn't actually know about the three broadcast package thing. That's pretty cool.
