With the UConn Huskies going back to back last night, it seems like the perfect time...

Re: ESPN College Hoops 2K5 Is 20 Years Old

Sometimes I start reading before I saw who wrote the article and within two paragraphs I can always identify it was Chase. This is a good thing and my favorite compliment I can give a writer of anything.

As for the game, I was a late add to the 2K basketball series (always an EA guy growing up) and this was my first one, and I as BLOWN AWAY. The ESPN integration felt so amazing at the time. It bummed me out when it went away the following year (even though there were some slight improvements that year). It was also the last time my team, Cincinnati, was actually great on a video game so, with most things, it's driven by nostalgia. I feel like with this game NCAA Football 06, I could go in tomorrow and starting naming a good portion of the generic rosters myself from memory. Spent WAY too much time doing that myself.

As a 50 year old gamer, this punched me in the gut. It does not feel like 20 years ago. What a great game it was. I hope one day we get to play something along the lines of this. I know I have a copy of College Hoops 2k8 somewhere. I just need to find it and hook up the PS3.

CH 2K6 was always my choice as a big presentation guy it had all the elements.

2k7 got rid of the crowd cuts, 2k8 got rid of the championship net cutting, and just showed a picture. Obviously the graphics are extremely outdated but it's still fun

I really hope that somewhere high up at 2K Games, some bean-counter is seeing the College Football 25 phenomenon and getting greedy about wanting to get in on the college sports action, so that they will greenlight a college hoops game. There is obviously pent-up demand for college sports games, although the college basketball fanbase is probably 1/10th of the college football fanbase. Although even with that, I have to imagine that the costs of making a college basketball game are less than that of a college football game (there aren't as many "traditions" that people will go nuts about if they aren't in the game, and the courts don't really look that differently from each other from the POV of the playing of the actual game - e.g. we don't need exterior shots of the stadiums, although that would be nice). And there are significantly fewer players you need to pay with respect to the NIL stuff, so that aspect would be cheaper.

I honestly would be fine with a largely cosmetic paint job on NBA2K for college basketball teams. Heck, I'd be fine with playing College Hoops 2K8 today if the game had the dynamic branching offensive plays of the modern of NBA games. That's literally the only feature that separates the modern games from the old ones in my opinion.

I can't be the only one that wants to play a college basketball game but wouldn't pay anything for the pro basketball game. I like the NBA2K games for the most part, but I have no interest in the NBA. I would, however, be a day 1 buyer of a new college hoops game.

So I guess we just give up all hope of ever seeing another college hoops game at this point?
